Planning to buy a synthetic for face lathering

Dear friends,

i want to buy a synthetic for face lathering. i have used plisson but handle is not well... Also sometimes leaves skin dry .

first is acetate and resin handles of plisson solid or same with wood one which is empty inside and filled with foam.

Second do you prefer plisson or muhle for face lathering?

3rd if i sticj with muhle what you recommend ? Black hjm 20 mm or stf 2 23 mm or stf 2 25 mm and is the handle made from solid rods or empty?

Now im using simpson ph2 super and ehsan 2 band and looking for something more soft and can keep water and heat close.

I have no experience with a Plisson but I have three Muhles, two Black Fibres and one Silvertip fibre. I face lather exclusively with these three.

I have several decent quality badger brushes which haven't been used for a couple of years. Shows that I like face lathering with the Muhles!

I face lather only and shave with cold water using mostly synthetic brushes. I have a Muhle XL 25mm STF brush and a Simpsons Chubby2 synthetic brush.

Can't say if they will hold heat been using cold water. Neither hold water the same way natural fiber knots do. For sure you do not need to pre soak them as it is a wasted effort from what I can see with synthetics. If you try to use synthetics like a natural fiber knot with regard to water you will likely get water running out of the knot onto the handle and your hand. You have to modify your technique a bit to overcome this, at least I did. Synthetics are different and should not be expected to perform exactly as natural fiber knots do. Expecting them to may lead to disappointment.

The Muhle handle is turned from solid rod, I believe. I really liked this synthetic brush until I got the Simpson Chubby2 synthetic. The main reason the Muhle is now in second place is that I found the loft to be set too high from the factory for my liking and am now having it put in a new handle with a loft setting of 54mm. That should cure that problem for me. Other than that it is a fine brush and will face lather any cream or soap that I have used easily.

The Simpsons Chubby2 synthetic took a lot of flack for having it's loft set at 50mm and many were put off by that. Quite a few found it unusable and immediately sold theirs on another forum. I have no problems whatsoever using this brush face lathering using a combination of circular strokes to build lather on my face and painting strokes to spread the lather around. If anything the tips of the knot may be even softer than the Muhle in my estimation. It seems to be a love or hate proposition with users. Me, I love it and it will very easily lather any cream or soap I have used with it. The handle is turned from solid rod too, I believe.

There has been many threads on the Plisson Synthetic as well as Muhle V2 Silvertip Fibre synthetic brushes. You would only need to do a search here or on Badger and Blade or The Shave Nook.

My own experience after having used most of the sizes of the Muhle V2 synthetic brushes and the new Plisson synth is that the Plisson is superior in every way. Especially for face latherers. The Plisson is far less springy and responds much more naturally when face lathering.

Although the face feel of the Muhle V2 25mm is excellent and is the closest Muhle has in a synthetic to what a good quality Badger would feel like, I found the Plisson to have a superior face feel and superior lather making abilities. I never would have believed it as I was perfectly happy with my Muhle brushes. They are great brushes to be sure.

A friend let me borrow their Plisson. Afterwards, I sold off almost all of my Muhle V2 brushes keeping only the 25mm version, for now. The trouble is, I have not been reaching for it...

For me, the Plisson is the best synthetic brush on the market..in all respects. Your mileage, as always, may vary.

Yea, not amazing at all that there should be as many diverse opinions on what goes into making a good synthetic brush. I mean you have the same differences of opinions/likes and dislikes when discussing badger or boar brushes too. Ya pays yer money and yus takes yer chances and hope you find one you like sooner than later.

Also all ofy badgers (2 pj2 super, 1 ehsan 2 band) sold for charity. i thought that badgers who gave their life for the brushes would be happy if the money can be used in aim of helping people who needs

Even though the OP has now decided to buy a different brush, the Mühle Silvertip Fibre® sold me on synthetic fibers.

I had use several (mainly Vulfix and Shavemac) silvertip brushes before and - due to various unimpressive reviews - had never given synthetic brushes a second thought.

But after having come across some highly positive reports I gave the Mühle a try and was sold on the Silvertip Fibre® after the first shave.

I travel regularly and a brush that is easy and quick to dry has a distinct advantage for me. I find the difference between this Mühle synthetic silvertip and genuine silvertips negligible and use them now almost exclusively. I now own two; one for home and one in my bag for travel.

Mine are the M (21 mm) size and while I have occasionally toyed with the idea of an L (23 mm) or XL (25 mm) size, the choice among larger Silvertip Fibres® is limited and I am in the end of the day fully satisfied with the M size that I have.

Yea, my first experience with a synthetic shave brush was with The Body Shop's version which put me right off using synthetic shave brushes. Then I read many positive comments about Muhle's STF synthetic brushes and bought their travel brush to try out. I was blown away by how well it performed on the road so I bought XL size for home use. That too was an excellent brush.

The only thing that took the shine off the Muhle XL STF brush was the Simpson's Chubbt2 synthetic with it's big knot and very low loft. It went to the head of the class for face lathering and gave me an excuse to have the Muhle XL STF knot reset in a new handle at a lower 54mm loft. That should solve the on little thing that bothered me about the Muhle and that was it was a tad bit floppy for me when face lathering.

I would not say the difference between synthetic knots and natural fiber knots is negligible though. They do not retain water the same way a natural fiber knot does but then again different natural fiber knots retain water differently from each other too. Each type of brush needs a slightly different technique when creating lather with it. You do have to adjust for it a bit. I have not found a knot that will dry as quickly as a synthetic and that certainly is an advantage when traveling. They are just plain different. The place where there is negligible difference is in the ability to produce an excellent lather. That is something any quality knot should do no matter the the type of fiber used in making the knot.

The current crop of synthetic fiber shave brushes deserve more respect than they have gotten in the past. In the past I could believe that they were quite terrible to use. That is most definitely not the case now and they will only continue to improve I am sure. Synthetics are now a very viable shaving tool which offer a different feel/experience to boar, badger or horse hair brushes. No, synthetics have not replaced my boar and badger brushes which remain in my rotation but they have given me an added new and different excellent experience.

The Muhle V2 in my opinion is best of the show when it comes to synthetics, but the Omega Hi-Brush is only a burp and a sneeze behind the Muhle product. Sadly, the Omega Hi Brush does not get a lot of recognition...I have always kind of wondered why. Best I can figure out is that when people think "Omega", boar comes readily to mind...not surprising as Omega makes (I think) the best boar out there.

Never heard of Zenith, but the Blackwood brush sure looks nice.

I'd almost bet that those Zenith brushes are "house brand" brushes made by Omega from the looks of them.

My favourite brush is an Omega Syntex. As the "hairs" are a bit stiff it has to be broken in. After about 10-15 shaves it gets much better.

Ok first of all many thank to AlexPalermo who gave me oppurnity to try the brush. He bought from zenith and mailed me to turkey.

ive tried the brush today and im surprised and impressed.

ive face lathered.

its not a plisson but not far from it neither.

it acts like a quality boar. Holds water and heat pretty good and acceptable softness on the face.

iy uses so tiny cream for 3 passes and dries quickly.

For this price its incredible and now it has a place in my rotation
