Need some input to make up my mind. I have 200.00 to spend on a Quality Brush.I will be face lathering mostly ....It's between the Simpson Polo 8...26mm Knot and 50mm loft, Super Badger..@ 192.00.... Or the Thater #4292/6 B Finest Silver Tip Fan...28 mm knot , 54mm loft ,..@ 199.00...choices ,choices,choices !! Thanks
I like my Thater 26mm but I love my polo 8. You can't go wrong either way but I'd go the Simpson.
I feel the same as Jimmy about the choice between these fine brushes.
You might consider the Persian Jar x3. I love mine. It's great for face and bowl lathering.
Or you could have pixelfixed make you something super nice on that budget! Or the other guys over there that do fantastic work :)

Would have to say if not going with a custom from one of the locals on here, I would pick the simpson. I don't own either of those models but have both a thater an a simpson. While both are great brushes the simpson just performs every time exactly the same. $.02 :gl:
can't comment on the Thater, nut i love my Simpson.
I'd save yourself some money and go for the Semogue 2013 SE. That was by far the best badger brush I owned/tried until I found synthetics. Super dense, soft tips, great looking olive wood handle and decent backbone.
There is no bad choice between Simpson and Thater. Both have nice backbones and hold suds very well. They both work well with soaps and creams. Thater might have softer tips vs. the scritchy from Simpson which some folks like a lot.

My go to brush of the 3 I own is one that "pixelfixed" made. I can without a doubt say that if you get a brush from him that you will use it often. I also have to comment on his willingness to make sure things are right. He was not happy with the way the first knot was and informed me that he had ordered a new knot for it. He clearly stands behind his product and is willing to ensure that everything is is in tip top shape.
Keep in mind that you may want 2 good brushes at the minimum if you use both soaps and creams. I like the softer brushes for the cream and one with a bit more bite (stiffness) for the soaps.

Other than,as you are a face lather the Thater has a much smaller handle, whereas the Polo 8 has a much longer handle, ideal for bowl lather. As you say the Thater has a much bigger knot over Polo 8, still very easy to navigate the face, and wonder soft tips.
Whichever you purchase "or both" Enjoy.

You will love the Polo 8 in super badger. It does wonders for face lathering whether you use soap or cream. I love mine. No, as Lynn noted, it will not have the silky tips of the Tather silvertip, but then, in my experience, no other brush model does. The Thater is in its class for silky tips. The Simpson Polo 8 in super also has extremely soft tips, great backbone, and I love the tall handle. You made a good choice.
You can't really go wrong with either. I prefer the English style and flair that goes with Simpson, and I own quite a few, but if I had to keep only one it would be my Thäter 26mm - 2 band brush. Hands down the most luxurious brush with excellent backbone for my own personal taste. Either way, congrats on your new purchase.

Right you are about that specific Thater. I have it and agree with you about how luxurious it is. Good stuff.
