Thread: help my BAD

I have a Crabree & Evelyn Best badger, plenty o backbone but kinda skritchy, loft a bit high and a Vulfix Super Badger -soft but floppy.

I'd like a soft brush with backbone. No stores local where I could do a comparison fondle.

I'm considering:

Simpsons Chubby 2 (super or best??)
Rooney Stubby (super)
Thater 4125-2 silvertip
Simpsons Duke 2 best badger

I would say that for the price range you are looking in, any of those are very nice brushes. I have a thater 4125, but i dont really use it that often because i have a custom brush from harrywally. If you dont want custom, go with the thater. I have not owned many high end brushes, but the thater brushes are top notch.

Best Badger is going to be little skritchy. I think I would go for a super, or silvertip with a low loft.

I vote for Simpson chubby 2 super

There are a few custom brush makers here and they can put together a brush that is exactly what you want at prices that may surprise you. I would get in touch with one of them before you buy.

As one who suffers profoundly from this disorder I actually have found a cure.

I figured the Simpsons Chubby 1 Super Badger was the best. Then from the Classifieds I purchased a Simpson's Chubby 2 Best badger - way to big for my liking. Shavemac, Kent, custom brushes, mixed boar/badger, boar only, none hit that perfect spot for me.

Then I decided to give a Plisson High Mountain White Badger Brush #10 a try - and that was it - perfection. Whether face lathering or bowl lathering it is simply unbelievable how it feels on the face, how it holds lather, actually has a good backbone to it, it is for me, the best brush I've ever used.

I usually am against saying things like, "If I had to start over I'd just....", because learning and experimenting is what's incredibly fun, but in this case, I would simply own the Chubby 1 in Super Badger and the Plisson, with the Plisson miles ahead of the Simpsons....YMMV of course.

The brush makers The Brushmakers Alcove is where they all hang out. Their are quite a few. You can look through and see there work and PM them and see about their turn around time on orders.
