Andrew, it is the loft.
Look here at this site I found awhile back:
OSSB - Rubberset 400
If you go to the home page, you can look over to the right & click on a button that will take you to other vintage brushes but not all are on there. I like the site though.
Right Tom. When I found that website awhile back, it says in there the difference between the #3 & #4. It is the loft.
The #3 has a 61mm loft while the #4 has a 65mm loft. That's a pretty cool website & a couple of my brushes are on there. A previous owner apparently submitted the pics or the owner of the site owned them at one time, who knows. One of my Macy's brushes & a red Rubberset I have are on there. Some of the other brushes on there might be any of us who collect a few vintage brushes.
Has anyone noticed that the #4 is more pricey than the #3?
Hadn't noticed while I was looking but I did pay a little more for #4 but it was in a little better condition. ;)
Great link with the measurements Steve, thanks for posting that.
Will help with my next batch of clones in the fall. Have some lovely burl stock I want to try to make some versions out of in 24 mm two band again.
Got myself a canada post small business account this week as it gives some perks on shipping and offers free tracking service on packages.
Will come in handy this fall as well.
Lovely job on those rubber sets jmercer. Perfect depth of shine going on..
