After following this thread Harrywally, I've actually thought of making one of these little gems in my machine shop. Stainless steel???? Maybe Titanium for my new soap concoction????

If your gonna go, go full tilt.... Titanium!!

Stainless would just be too heavy! :)

Aluminium is a different alloy for sure, soft, and a pain to keep patina free. I'm thinking white tripoli on a soft cotton wheel would bring out the luster after the wet dry.

I'm taking very accurate measurements on this one. Definitely going to try to make a clone. Probably not out of metal, but some really hard babinga or something.
Titanium would be cool if you bored out the middle. I presume these were all cast originally..
Checked on eBay for fun, yea a clone I make myself is more in my wheelhouse I think..

I just checked on the price where I purchase exotic metal and alloys..........Titanium rods----1" inch OD 6" inches long is over $60 bucks. If I do one for myself I would probably use stainless and hollow out the handle for weight reduction. I would also do a design change in that I would put a fine knurl on the end for better gripping to unscrew it.

Incidentally, when I've re-polished the originals I found that using the usual compounds on soft mops and with a light touch was OK.

Thanks for posting that. I was just trying to think of the name of those brushes as I thought they were interesting. The handles and the knots seem to be of high quality and anything I have read on them seems to indicate that too.
