It's a very good price seeing as you can spend more on some plissons, Simpsons and thaters,and they are just a high quality production brush, I would have suspected it to cost more considerring the fine craftsmanship and knot he's putting in them. Tc
I've seen them. I think they've been around for at least a year or two now. He does fantastic work on the brushes, definitely a lot of craftsmanship.
But can someone tell me what shape the handle is on that home page??? :hmmm:
From what I can see there is no real defined shape. Kind of like some modern art statement.
Innovative designs and the woods are finished beautifully.

He seems like a smart business man. It looks to me like he takes the briar that is a mistake or won't make a good pipe and puts a brush in the hole instead.

I don't even know anymore if a brush, ANY brush, is worth anything over $100..I can get a GREAT lather from a $10 boar...the end result (the shave) is still the same...I think I'd rather invest in some quality hardware (razors) rather than software (brushes). Back in the days, weren't men using boar rather than badger? all barbershop videos i've seen they were using boars...of course the simpsons or Thater CEO will tell you otherwise because if not for their overpriced brushes they wouldn't be able to afford an aston martin and a mistress or two on the side. I have been looking at them for quite sometime they are very scupltural you can really see the individual creativity coming through in his work and designs, I like his brushes but because they are so very individual I think If I were to order one I would have to have my own personal imput before I would give him the go ahead.
You could ask yourself why buy a custom class razor for hundreds of dollars when a vintage piece can shave just as good.
In the day boar was the common man's brush but not because it was better or even close but because it was dirt cheap. Badgers were for the well heeled gentleman.

At one time straight razors were the only shaving tool used by everyone not just the common factory worker. The only choice you had was if you could afford a plain Jane SR or a fancier more expensive one. I am sure the same went for brushes and other shave related items. Always has been that way and still is with most consumer goods.Quote:

Well guys, this man is an Artist. There is no "right" or "wrong" price for art. This is nothing like put a piece of wood on a lathe and turn (with all the respect for lathe brushmakers, i'm one of them). This man seems study every single piece of briar, do a one-time-only project just for fit that piece of wood, and work it to the shape just by hand tools.

Yes, the difference between the 2 methods of making a brush is the difference between imposing the final shape on a piece of wood and shaping the wood to a form dictated by the piece of wood itself.Quote:

I like the shape those handles have. For me the question has always been how are the knots. At those prices they better be of the quality of Thater, Shavemac, Simpsons.

As far as the handle goes it is unique and is something you might expect to see in the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. The workmanship is impeccable. I know we have several artisans who make gorgeous brushes on our site however this is in another class by itself and IMHO blows them all away.

For me the etalon for a 3 band silver tip is Simpson Super badger, specifically in CH2 or CH3 incarnation. I have not seen a knot like that with density and backbone in other 3 band offerings. I like the handles that that artisan produces though.Quote:
