Scuttle - How to use?
In a moment of weakness, I bought a scuttle.
It seems pretty obvious but how do you use one of these?
I use MdC, Tabac sticks, Arko sticks, and Williams pucks and have always face lathered everything except the Williams which I use in a mug. Can I use these soaps? I really don't want to change soaps if at all possible.
Does a scuttle work best with creams?
The idea of warm lather seems appealing. Let's see how that goes.

We're going to need a little bit more than that. What kind of a scuttle is it? Can you post a pic for us?

I like my Georgetown Pottery skuttle but my favorite and my everyday skuttle is my Dirty Bird. My Georgetown is now my travel skuttle.

I use a SWK Scuttle everyday and love it, the first pass the lather/brush is really not that warm but pass 2/3 is great, as far as using on just full the outside/inside with pretty hot water then you can soak your brush and safety razor while you shower then just dump all the water and refill the outside with hot water and buid you lather in the bowl or use it to keep the latherd brush warm.
Here's mine that my son gifted me:

Thanked: 3222I don't see why you can't use those soaps with a scuttle so long as it is not the vintage type scuttle but a modern double walled scuttle. For MdC and Williams just load up the brush as you would to face lather, then go to the scuttle and whip up your lather by adding water as you go. When you have the consistency you want apply the lather to your face.
The Arko stick is pliable enough to be presses into a mug/bowl to allow you to load the brush but you may have to grate the Tabac. Alternately you could load up the brush directly off the end of the shave sticks but you may have to do that several times.

OK, you have a modern scuttle so you should be good to go.

Very nice! Simply add hot water and proceed with normal bowl lathering techniques. Yes, creams will love this scuttle.
One thing though, you may not want to add rapidly boiling water to it, this may shock the ceramic if it is not rinsed in
warm water first.Rog

Thanks guys.
Good tip on the boiling water. It doesn't really get too cold here in the desert but I will keep that in mind.
I have some small ziplock bowls that will work for the Arko and shaved Tabac. I'll give that a try.

I have a Dirtybird 1.5 scuttle and it works just fine as described above.
You will enjoy the warm lather.Fact: Opinions are not the same as facts... Well, that's my opinion anyway
