yep Bob's right.
Of course you can do gentle stroke after stroke for hours on end on a hard surface with a wet brush. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Make lathers several times a day, either in your palm or in a bowl. Put the brush in front of a fan between lathers, to speed up drying. Rinse and repeat.
This process will also get your technique with the brush dialed in quickly.Last edited by Wayne1963; 12-27-2017 at 07:33 AM.

All sounds good. But I did it like Wayne said, and it does help you to learn how your brushes react to the use of hard soaps to creams, and face lathering to bowl lathering, more water less water, ect.
I have found that some of my brushes suck for face lathering, and others for bowl lathering. Some, work great for both.
Just go play with it.! It'll take ya a year to wear out a puck of soap, doing that alone. Its a good way for breaking in your brush, and to learn how it reacts to your soaps, and preferred method.Mike

Just use it. Its going to take about 6 or 8 shaves to break it in and while you could simply palm later with it over and over really what makes the hairs split and makes it feel soft is the cycle of soaking, lathering and drying; which you cant really simulate.
