Looking to try a new brush just for fun, but want it to be money well spent. Right now I have a tweezerman that I got for free, and it's the only one I've ever used. I don't want to spend more than like $30, and performance is all that matters to me, I don't care what it looks like.
Can someone steer me in the right direction for a new brush experience in that price range?
In that price range, I'd say your best bet is a nice boar brush (Omega or Semogue 1305 or 2000). Good luck in your searchQuote:

Just like with any brush I pre-soak it 10 minutes before loading bristle and working the lather. Good God mate it's a lather monster! Pair that with Tabac and you just might find yourself captivated in lathering your face over and over and over again. I used the brush 4x now and yielded marvelous results. It feels nice and smooth on your face too! Not "scritchy" as they say. The handle is made of jade acrylic and it definately exudes class and prestige ;)
I like it so much I just had to pick up another. Gary's customer service is top notch! You won't regret it :Beer:

Ninja edit - i do have to caution you do, there's a funky scent that will be emitted from the boar brush. After a few uses it'll be gone. 3 is about right.
For $22 OP how can you go wrong?

I have an Edwin Jagger pure badger brush I got last month for $25. In my opinion its a great performer, particularly if you are like me and think finer grades are too floppy.
I ended up getting this...can't wait.

I just got my semogue 2000 from the vintage scent and its lather is smooth and voluptuous. Simply a fine brush which outperforms any brush I've used. It's HUGE and has a fantastic handle which is easy to hold and very comfy.

I know you said $30 is your limit but IMO- unless you like stiff brushes/specifically boar brushes, why bother? If you go into the $30-$50 range there are quite a few great vulfixes...
+1 on khaos - I have a Semogue 2015 silvertip, and it's absolutely great - soft, but with enough backbone that I can use it on hard soaps and creams alike. It sells for around $50US, IIRC - a bit over your budget, but a great brush nonetheless. There's some super brushes available in that range, if you're willing to spend a little more.
Alternatively, if you fancy yourself a woodworker, you could buy a Golden Nib silvertip or super knot for cheap (~20-25USD for silvertip, depending on sizes of course), then make yourself a handle you like the look of to put said knot in. Work required, but a custom brush for less than $50 is not to be sneezed at.
So I used the brush for the first time today and it's really nice. I don't know if my tweezerman was just really beat (It was given to me in a razor sale) but this one really holds the water and heat. Made my lather what it's supposed to be. Soft on the face, lathers like crazy with the cake soap. I would definatley buy it again, I had no idea what I was missing with a crappy brush.
