Very cool Brad. When I was an ironworker's apprentice 40 years ago I learned a lot of knots, the turkshead among them. I bought The Ashley Book of Knots and practiced many of the decorative knots. Your beautiful brush brought back memories of my younger days. :)

Man it came out....Almost like you thought about it! the heft is good i like it alot and even more so in person the pic isn't doing the hard work justice! i was in westport with the wife yesterday and stopped at a few of the "classy" stores...one such place was selling silver badger brushes for 130 usd......i almost laughed and said to myself there is no thought about the design...it's all to easy and simple and bland to look at! and then i see the one's that you have made...far superior in everyway!

Then there is one more problem, the epoxy is affected by gravity. Iff you let the stuff have its way, it will run down as low as it can get before it cures. I found a simple way to outsmart the epoxy:

I just set the drill to rotate at about 20 RPM and put the epoxy on slow and easy like. It is much better to keep evil cats away while it spins, even if they seem disinterested:

It is a safe bet that as soon as you decide to leave the room, the wretched cat will decide to knock your fresh epoxy coated item to the remarkably hairy floor.
Thank you for the pictures. They tell so nicely that you don't need to have zillion dollar workshop to produce beautiful items like this unique brush. All you need is few tools, imagination and skillful hands. Not many today has these.

As far as bubbles and epoxy go, I mix small batches inside of a ziplock bag. I use resin research, or West Systems epoxy, and just pour both parts into a ziplock. After squeezing out all the air, you can seal the bag, then just squish the epoxy around for a good three or four minutes. I haven't had any problems with gooey, not mixed epoxy with this technique, and you end up with bubble free epoxy.
And I really like your brush. It would look great on a sailboat.

If you don't already have it, may I recommend the Encyclopedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding by Bruce Grant. Some neat knots in there too.
