Id get a Martinez Custom for those prices...Miguel does some great work and has a rapid turn around time.
Thing is I am ordering from west coast shaving and those are the 3 brushes I came up with. I like to order all from the same place rather then 2,3,4 different places...
BTW is there a discount anywhere for WCS?
I don't know those brushes as far as their characteristics. Soft, stiff, floppy, dense ,.... there are variables and if you know what you like I would look for some reviews on them. If you don't yet know what you like in a brush than one is probably as good as another.
I've not used any of them, but I've been told by severl people that the Simpson's Colonel is the best bang-for-buck Simpson's there is...
I have read a couple votes for the simpson now...
The only Simpsons I own is a Polo 8, and I'm not sure how that would compare to the Colonel, but I imagine it's going to have pretty good backbone to it. I do have an Omega 6214 and two Vulfix 2235s, which are very similar to the ones you are looking at. The 6214 has good density and very soft hair which leans toward "floppy". The 2235 is less dense with "scratchier" hair and would best be described as a bit of a "mop". Now, don't take these descriptions as negatives, these are both excellent brushes that churn out awesome lather with creams, and also work very well with the softer glycerin soaps. I have not tried these with the harder triple-milled soaps, so I can't speak of their effectiveness (or lack of) in that area.
It really depends on what you use the most to make your lather. I'm a cream kind of guy, and I love the way that the "floppy" brushes build lather in short order, so you could really just toss a coin between the Omega and the Vulfix. I'm glad I was able afford both, but if I could only have one of those, it would probably be the Vulfix because I like the larger handle. If you are going to use soap a lot, then the Colonel might be your best bet. Honestly, I really don't think you can go wrong with any of those brushes, it just comes down to your own personal preferences.
Finding what works best for you is half the fun. Good luck! :)
Is there a section with a list of all the site sponors along with their discount?
I just went with west coast cause of the sample pack...but if another site offers that I should check them out right...
I use a Vulfix super. I dont know if it is the same one you are looking at, but I do know the Vulfix company is known to make a floppy brush. I find mine to be just right and I am glad I purchased a smaller diameter brush because the hairs really flatten out and cover alot of area on my face when applying lather. I guess I don't have a big face lol. I've been using my brush for over a year and it has lost exactly one hair. The brush did stink for a while when it was new, but I think they (badger hair) all do.
As for the other brushes, well I haven't tried them so I can't say with any certainty.
perferd have you got any experience with a shaving brush ? You would be well served to read up on the basics if you haven't got some hands on experience. In general a 23mm diameter knot with a loft (height) of 50mm or less will be a good soap puck brush. When you go bigger in knot and especially loft you are getting more into the realm of a cream brush. At least in my experience. So if you are going to be a face latherer with soaps a 48 or 50mm loft and a 23 or less knot is probably what you would be happier with.
OTOH, if you want to go both ways .,.... with lathering I mean :) .... then a larger knot/loft might be in order. AFAIK, Vulfix has a reputation of being floppy ... as in soft. Simpsons had more body but are made by Vulfix now so I don't know. I don't know about Omega either so reading reviews if you can find the would be a good thing. Otherwise you may end up like me with 20+ brushes.
If you want a seriously in depth review and comparison of each brush you might try shavemyface.com. There are some major brush aficionados over there.
Vulfix Super Badger. I have it and it has been flawless! Great with soaps, great with creams, it never stunk like badger or lost any hairs. It looks just as good today as when I bought it. It feels just as soft as my plush silvertip, and is more versitle with the creams.
It is well balanced to meet all your demands and that is why I recommend it.
Good Luck,
Pabster
It sucks when I have this listed on 2 websites and the votes for each brush are like 3, 3, and 3 lol....I was hoping for something more like 6, 2, and 1....
