Dont soak it in anything! Seriously. It took five shaves for it to smell like momma bears. Until then it smelled sweet like fresh hay. Dont let some city boy convince you horse hair smells bad! Its not like those smelly badgers.

My, what a short memory you have - you know full well that I have already missed her once.
Now, with that new laser sight I got for my rifle, that's not going to happen again! :)
Well, mine arrived! Feels nice, have not done the wet test yet, but as Bman said, it smells like hay!

The city-slicker Tarkus assured me that hay smell would turn to horses-ass as it got wet, so I soaked it in a coffee cup with 2 teaspoons of Oxyclean for an hour last nite. Brush totally dry this morning and looks great! Water was a bit murky! :p
Ready to roll!

So how did it smell when wet? Honestly i find it absoutely hilarious that grown men are so afraid of a brush that smells like hay that they use all sorts of dangerous chemicals that are highly toxic to treat the new brushes, that the factory correctly treated prior to manufacture!
No worries, Bman! Laugh away! You do what you do and I shall do what I do! I have about 10 brushes, and learned early on to do this before lathering with a brand new knot instead of passing that sucker across my nose and getting a gagging whif. Did not like the stinky as a kid, don't like it now as a 'grown man'. Besides, what about the soup in that coffee cup? I don't need it. You might! The oxyclean rinses right out and has harmed not a brush yet. All brushes/knots come from a factory of some sort. They never tell how, or if they treat them in any way, I think. YMMV
I for one wont be tasting the Kool-Aid or in this case Horse ass soup.
And its not about being afraid, Its all about being clean and or smelling clean. And most factories are filthy places. A scrub is not that big a deal.
:D Horse ass soup! HAR! :roflmao
