My Father's Day Gift
A little back ground about my dad...
My dad is a pretty cool guy. He's been there through thick and thin with me since I was born. I'm the first born of my family followed by my two twin sisters. So he with me puts up with the tidal waves of estrogen that flows through our household. No offense ladies who read this, its just a fact of life. Because of this he owns an old car shop where we sneak off to every weekend and go do manly things. Like rebuilding old cars or work on crazy projects he or I think of.
My dad is the nicest guy I know. He bought me my first car. An old 1966 Black Mustang Coup that sat under a pine tree in Florida for 4 years. He gave it to me when I was 13 and said "There are my tools, and here is a mechanic's manual. Hollar when you get stuck." Took me three years with a lot of his patience to get it back to being fixed enough to drive to high school with.
My dad has to be the most patient guy I know. From the day I was born he knew that I was going to be an Eagle Scout. He entered me into the Cub Scouts when I was in 1st grade. I remember him buying my first pine wood derby car and the hours we spent not making it fast but making it look cool. For any dads with boys in the Scouts or other Eagle Scouts out there, you know how much work that is.
So for this Father's day I decided to make a brush for him. He always used shave brushes found at Walgreens for as long as I can remember. I decided he needs to know what a decent brush feels like. The handle is a piece of 3" aluminum that I found at work laying in the scrap bin. I had one of the machinist watch over me in the fact that I didn't break anything or lose any fingers. The knot is from The Golden Nib its the 24mm silver tip with the short loft. I used JB Weld since I knew he would know that the knot would not fall out. I think it turned out alright. I snuck into his bathroom after he went to bed so he'll find it in the morning right before his shave.
