Since I have acquired my Semogue 830 Boar Brush from vintagescent, I have not used any of my other three brushes. I have grown extremely fond of my Semogue and plan on purchasing another soon.
Now, I rotate my soaps, creams and razors everyday, but I have not rotated my brushes at all. Does anyone else stick to or own only one brush that they are 100% happy with? I simply have no desire to use my other brushes right now and I'm feeling guilty! :thinking:
I have never tried a boar brush. What would you say is the diff between the boar and the badger?Quote:

it's a wee scot for me.. i also have a vdh.. but it feels like i'm slapping a giant mop around on my face.. the scot is perfect and doesn't throw lather everywhere.
You mean we are allowed to own more than one brush??? I've only ever had one. To think what a bloke could do with two brushes! :)
Nah, I don't have the room in my...wifes...bathroom cabinet/bench space/wardrobe/old boot to keep another brush. I gots ta be thankful I gots a spot ta hang my toothbrush. :)

Like the Boar brushes and have a couple. Also like Savile Row, Pilson, and Simpson. Like the differences in all these brushes.

I have a couple..One built with the a Golden Nib Special Silver on Elk Antler...One I pick up in Germany, a tortise regular badger and a older badger that is soft as silk embeded in a clear plastic block (probably my favorite) and of course a travel Vulix for the shave kit.
Only have one brush...a $7 VDH. Never really wanted another. Well, I take that back, I like the fancier brushes, but can feed my kids for a week or two with the proceeds required to buy some of the other brushes and can't really justify that expense. Besides, the VDH is a fine brush and does the job it was made to do.

Actually, depending on what you use, you might not even need a brush. Obviously, if you use the canned shaving cream, a brush is not needed. Even some of the high-end shaving creams don't require a shaving brush; just use your hands. If you only use soaps, then a brush is required.
There can be a practical reason to own two brushes, though. If you use very dense brushes, they may take longer than a day to dry. For instance, my Simpson Chubby 1 Two-Band brush takes a little longer than a day to fully dry. In this kind of case, you may want to own two brushes to insure that you can shave every day if you have to or want to.
Personally, I really like brushes and wouldn't mind owning a few (<10). I am the type of guy that would prefer to have a razor or two and than have more brushes. However, that would be the opposite of the norm on this site :).
I own 4 brushes now, one I got with my first SR kit, I used it a couple of times and I just didnt like it, soaks up water like a sponge and goes floppy lol, my go to is my tweezerman, I love this brush it's so comfortable, I have a larger badger that I use on occasion and an omega boar which I bought to try, and really have no complaints about but I still don't think I've got it just right with the boar.

I've only got one brush and I'm totally happy with it. I dont think I'll get another until this one wears out TBH..!

I bought a Kent BK8 and my other brushes either went into retirement or the travel kit.
I switch from badger to boar but I do have a favorite and that is one I made up which has a large wood handle with a relatively small knot that
I got from Golden Nib.

I'm still a n00b, so I only own one... for now. I got the silvertip knot and handle (separately) from the Golden Nib. A little epoxy later and I love it!

Very interested in knowing/feeling the difference between a "Boar" and "Badger" hair brush :hmmm:

I only have one badger brush, a Kent BK2, and have used it every day for nearly two years. If I ever wear it out, which doesn't seem likely, I may upgrade to a BK4.
Gentlemen:
I have 12 brushes, which I rotate in a regular pattern. They include three silver tips, an assortment of badger grades, three boars and a synthetic.
The silver tips work better with creams, and the rest with soaps.
Does one need more than one brush? No, not really, but it's nice to spoil one's self occasionally.

I collected and used a lot of brushes for my shaving brush blog. I still have and use most of them from time to time. It's real fun deciding which one to use each day. I don't often use one more than two days running. As always in life - each to his own!

My omega boar brush is used mostly all the time, i do every now and then throw my vulfix badger into use, but after a day or 2 i want my boar brush back, i do use a cream/soap rotation, and a de/straight rotation, but almost entirly the 1 brush.

One brush for home, vulfix super badger,
one brush for cottage, vulfix pure badger....too much sand at the cottage (everywhere....there is sand everywhere!) for a nice brush.
they both work just fine....and the less brushes I own, the more strops and razors I can afford. (That's what keep telling myself anyway). :)
