I did think about doing that but a few points held me back: I have zero experience in building these (no local teacher either), limited tools in my toolchest, no idea where to source the hair and not sure exactly how to lock the hairs in the base. I had thought about building my ideal brush using a piece of stone (if I could bore it out) or wood since I agree with you on principle that there is little better than holding a useful piece of whatever that you have built yourself; for me, those are fishing flies.
Anyway, thanks and I hope that your holidays are off to a good start.

First, thank you to all who shared their knowledge and opinion with me about brush choices. However, I didn't get any of the brushes suggested; I got a New Forest High Mountain 2221! I love this brush! I received it a week after ordering and gave it a nice soak then used it this morning. It whips up lather like a champ and has a good soft texture when putting it on the face. Peter is an outstanding brush maker and I feel happy that I was able to get one of his beauties.
I thought that these were not available until next month??? How did you pull that off...or did you buy the sample one he had?
I have a 2201 and it is my favorite brush. In fact, I have all but stopped using my Shavemac since I got the New Forest. Great choice!
Hello Eric,
I would recommend:
Savile Row 31xx Silvertip brushes
knot sizes: 18-32mm
prices: $75-$200
Just pick the size you want.
Thanks,
Mike
I want to offer a sincere apology to Peter at New Forest Brushes for my mistake in listing his brush that I purchased from him as a New Forest High Mountain White #2221; it was not that model brush, it was a New Forest Finest Silvertip #2211. I was mistaken when I described it as a High Mountain White and this was not meant to cause any confusion or be malicious. I’m sorry for my mistake and hope that all of you understand that in my excitement to describe this beautiful brush I got confused between models that I had discussed with him.
Thank you
Eric
