Default Which brush would you get?

I’m searching for opinions… I know that can be dangerous here but… I’m willing to give it a shot. LOL I’m looking to add a new brush and am interested in what you (collectively) consider a great brush. I’ve done some online comparisons but am overwhelmed with marketing. Here is what I’m looking for:

I primarily use creams for lather
I build lather in a scuttle
I have a Vulfix 2233S Super Badger currently and would like a little larger knot
I have a limit of $130 US… but wouldn’t mind spending less obviously

I appreciate everyone’s opinion and ideas and any help offered.
    Eric

Get yourself a 22 or 23mm Heinrich L. Thater or Simpson Emperor 2 Super 2-Band (22mm) which should run you between $120 and $130. Both brands are excellent brush makers.

Another +1 for the thatër they are a great brush for their price IMO. If I could only have one of my brushes I would keep my thatër because it has the best all around performance/looks.

I bought a Simpson about 18 months ago and have used it everyday since. So far it has done an excellent job and still looks strong; and I have enjoyed using it every time.

I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

As you can see in the SOTD I favorize Muehle-products.
Those brushes aren't so expensive than Thäter, but works very well.
2 times I visited the manufactory and each time I bought new brushes 20 % off- they sell it directly/ outlet.

You also wouldn't go wrong with a Vulfix boar's bristle brush. I love mine better than any badger. Classic Shaving has them starting at $7.99!

I gather from your list that you are looking for a brush with the following characteristics:

    1. You use creams: Badger hair is more suitable for that task; although boar bristle can also do the job.
    2. You build lather in a scuddle: The handle must be long enough for this task...too short of a handle will cause problems.
    3. The Vulfix 2233 has a 19mm knot...say you are looking for a 22-23mm knot. Right?
    4. Your have a budget of $130.
    Possible candidates:

    Simpson PJ2: Knot 23mm height 104mm~$108
    Simpson 57: Knot 23mm height 101mm~$100
Omega #638: Knot 24mm height 109mm~$95 Lucretia Borgia Series.

You don't need to mate the brush with your shave method as long as it's a quality brush.

I agree with the others about the Thater. For a Silvertip Badger type it has great backbone, isn't scratchy and isn't floppy.
