Alton Brown's shaving mug????
All,
I have an old Old Spice mug that I used to use with a brush and the soap that came in it. I'm looking to get back into the brush and mug. My OS mug had a thin red plastic lid that I would let sit on the wet soap until next use.
I was looking at the various mugs offered online and what I wanted was one with an integral lid.
Then I thought about AB and his little salt bowl.
Take a look and let me know what you think about using it as for shaving.
Cheers
Creative/economic soap holder ideas!
I did not like the prices of all those fancy containers listed on the different sites, I mean a lot of them look really cool, if money is no object and you plan to have only one of them. But if you plan to alternate soaps then you must get creative. In the past I used the wooden bowl that came along with a shaving soap from Crabtree and Evelyn it come with a lid and looks pretty classic and it was around ten extra dollars after the soap. But I encountered a few issues; the wood tends to hold humidity, it doesn't give you much room to make a the lather and eventually the finish start bubbling up from the bowl. So being an amateur cook I often frequent the kitchen stores and the isles at the dept. stores while the wife (soon to be ex) hunted for clothing/shoes. I found a ceramic bowl 'n lid made Inter-Design it is intended for holding the cotton balls in the bathroom but it has the ideal size for holding the shaving soap plus is deep enough to hold plenty of lather. They come in various colors and it has a chromed base. It should hold very well since it is designed to be in the bathroom I've seen them in several of those Bed, Bath and whatever:rolleyes: .It retails for about $5/6.99, not bad! If you require a handle I also found one made out of porcelain in Target. It is intended for soup not soap  but hey it has a nearly exact size to pass for a true shaving mug and it was only $4.99.:D. So I got two pretty decent mugs that look nice for a small fraction of the price I would have otherwise paid. Also less than the $20 for the salt holder. Sorry, guys for not posting pictures but the wife took the camera with her:rant: , that's life. Hope this helps someone.
