Question, one entry per person or are multiple entries permissible?
yea i have many diffrent things around here to try lathering with id love to post multiple and do we have to show ourselves lathering or just the items we would use.
I have a damn fine brush, but I don't wanna get bit!!

If your missing some fingers that would get you extra credit.
You can submit as many entries as you want.
Does it matter... Cream or soap? :)
Well I had this idea while working. I was machining a bronze bearing out of a cam housing using a long end mill I was getting these long stringy chips & I thought this would be great for this contest. So I collected a large handful, layed them out and wrapped in electrical tape. Thought it would work but sadly no. Since it wasnt banded together it shed like a bronze cat.
Even though it was a total failure I thought I should share just the same.
Oh Bart, how I have forsaken you. Sorry cheer up. Oh wait you always look sad.
Ha!!!!

Bart would like to see some LATHER! Where are all the constituants who voted for this contest????
Ok this is my second attempt in this bizarre request. I thought long & hard, what looks like a shaving brush? Hmmmmmm. I know a potato brush. You know the brushes you use to scrub the dirt off a spud. So I got to lathering up a normally foamy A.O.S. lemon cream. With the short very stiff bristles I had to use a bucket load of cream to get any amount of lather. But the worst was when that brush started to scrub the flesh off my face. Lets just say it emulated a wire brush Ouchy!!!
Enjoy my shame

Nice work, Tarkus! Mr. Potato head! HAR! I did not notice, but Bart saw your little note on the shower curtain in the mirror! Lesseee. In the mirror. You wrote it backwards! I have never been hated so creatively!
THANKS "Buddy" :rofl2:
Some very strange folks on this thread here. You all must be from Texas-har har.
That's what they voted for. Mr. Potato Head is from Philly! You won't find a Texan lathering up with a tater brush!
It don't make sense! :rofl2:
I think you did a fine job, Tarkus! The bar has been raised!
My first "brush" is a steel wire cup brush. I chose Dragon's Blood thinking it would be fitting.
Attachment 106579
My bowl is nicely scored and textured now:D
Attachment 106580
Surprisingly, with a light touch, no blood was drawn while applying the lather.
Attachment 106581
I wouldn't recommend face lathering with it though.:nono:
Some brave (or stupid) men out there I must say...:)
Mick
Break out the alum block!:bow
Not only does she make a serviceable brush, she's also a self-contained hot lather machine as long as you keep her supplied with tart-cherry Z-bones. Fully automatic operation. Just put a bit of peanut butter on your face when the lather is ready and she will take care of the rest!
Damn that should win a prize, but first I have to go and have a retch in the gutter just thinking about that dogs drool...:overkill:
Mick
Am I going to be the first person to put a live animal to my face??? I do have a couple weasels living here!!!!
I'm letting my softer side show on this unconventional brush.
First, I thought the stems might whip up the lather better. Took a lot to get it here, maybe if I mashed the ends?
Attachment 106697
Applying the lather, I used a softer part of the "brush" this time.
Attachment 106698
Mmmm, smells nice!
Attachment 106699
A bit delicate for face lathering, so my search continues.
I found the face lathering solution!
As I was preparing to make some charcloth for an upcoming camping trip, it struck me that If the nice soft flannel were to be unraveled and rolled into a cylinder... it could be brush like and soft!
Attachment 106704
A little Speick, some water. and a lot of work again, I have a thin face lather.
Attachment 106705
Not much backbone and very little loft but it got the job done.
I think I'll stick with my badgers, boars and horses.
Thanks for the contest and the fun!
Okay, so we have these lying around the house, and she just grew out of the ones, so I thought I would try a diaper! Yes, an unused diaper.
Attachment 106710
So after it absorbed about a pint of water and all of the soap, and I put a lot of soap on it, it looked like this:
Attachment 106711
Then it did allow some lather on my face, barely enough to shave with, but I had to super soak the thing with about another pint of water!!!
Then it did actually give me enough for three passes, but left a bit of detritus as you can see from the cotton pulling on my coarse whiskers!
Attachment 106712
That was fun, at least I wasn't super exfoliated (bloody from the brush). I was going to do a bottle brush, but it was too easy!!!
EDIT: I used an unscented natural soap when I tried the bottle brush, then sterilized in a 1 tbs to gallon ratio of bleach water to sterilize it for the baby bottles. Wife doesn't know of course. If you want picturesI would be happy to load those as well of course, it was just way too easy, lathered up really, really well! I also thought about using one of my daughter's lovies, but didn't think I would hear the end of it if my coarse facial hair pulled it apart...
OK... Adding entry #2 anyway: The baby's bottle brush, now I know it's a brush so it's cheating, but hey, it lathered.
Attachment 106717
The lather actually came quite readily:
Attachment 106718
Now the only real problem is that the lather went EVERYWHERE!!!!
Attachment 106720
Now after a thorough application I ended up with a very uneven but full facial lather:
Attachment 106721
Baby's bottle brushes would definitely work in a pinch!
My wife would have a fit if she saw me doing that with our baby's bottle brush...You're secret is safe with me mate. :)

Friends, today you are in for a special and RARE treat: a glimpse of the inner workings of the Brush Works here at Cangooner Industries. You will also be witness to the production of an extremely limited edition Rosemary Snaffler brush.
Step 1: locate your source material.
1a - slightly out-of-control involuntary donor rosemary plant in need of some trimming. Check!
Attachment 106773
1b - an appropriate length of highly specialized rosemary brush binding ligature stock (aka string) - Check!
Attachment 106774
1c - expert supervision (Walter and the Dude) and caffeine - Check!
Attachment 106775
Step 2: Prepare and assemble your parts
Attachment 106776Attachment 106777Attachment 106778
Step 3: Lather away
Attachment 106779
The result? Well, I was using Mama Bear's Rosemary Mint soap, so this was definitely the rosemary-est shave I have ever had. And I suspect supper will definitely have a whiff of rosemary about it as well. :)
Thanks to Tarkus for the message inspiration :)
Great job Cangooner not only is your idea practical its earth friendly as well.
Plus you get points for the Big Lebowski coffee mug.
Well done.:tu
This looks fun, can I play?
So last weekend I was awarded some nice hemp rope at the BladeSports cutting competition.

So I took a bit from the floor after my run and taped it together:

It seemed to lather up *fairly*, so I gave it a shot:

The "brush" was shedding a bit. It probably would serve as a pretty good test for your razors edge though. I think in a pinch, I would opt for the toilet brush, or a dirty sock instead.

This thing actually did a great job. The CO Bigelow just sprang to life in the mug in about 2/3 the time it would take with my VDH brush. It's a little harsh on the face so don't swirl but painting on the lather was actually comfortable.
I'm surprised that no one commented on the diaper and BBS... I'm disappointed.
