Thread: Smelly boar hair brush

Hi all,

I bought a 14 euro boar hair brush to replace my old one that has synthetic hairs.
As far as brushing goes, it is ok, but it doesn't smell too nice.
Does the smell disappear automatically or do I need to treat it with something?

Btw, in the store I was allowed to touch and feel a 585 euro silvertip badger hair brush. Wonderful sensation. Only 20 of those things are made per year.

I've never had boars brush, but what I've read from here, the small should go away after a few shaves.

A good hair conditioner washed through the bristle should help. After that, I would suggest lathering a couple times with a strongly scented soap or cream.

yep hair conditionair seems to work for most people that have posted just make sure you do not bleach it or boil it as far as i know this ruins the hell out of them.

Regardless of what you do, though, the smell will go away after a few shaves, and be replaced by the smell of shaving soap. I've had only a few brushes - my first didn't smell at all, my second smelled foul. It depends on the brush.

I shampooed and conditioned my first badger brush and just soaped the second, but neither smelled really bad to me, but then I like witch hazel and wet wool smells. I'm kinda weird that way. The reason I washed them was to clear any undesirable disinfectant chemicals away before I used it on my face. The smell goes away pretty quickly.
