Thread: Where/what brush

I currently have a $15 omega brush from shoppers drug mart made of hog hair (hairs tend to either break or fall out). I've been trying to find out what I should get as a replacement when I get a badger hair brush but still have no idea what I should get or where to order from. I'd like to be around the $50 range, give or take, but the options are still so many that I feel like I cannot make an informed decision in the slightest. If someone can recommend where to order from and what I should get, I'd be most appreciative. If this should be in the beginner's forum, my apologies.

If the hairs are breaking or falling out at an unusual rate I would take the brush back to Shoppers and try and get it replaced as defective. I have not had an unusual amount of hair falling out of the one I recently got from Shoppers, an Omega 10066 white handle. Do you predominately bowl or face lather? Do you find your boar brush too stiff and scratchy? That may make a difference in what type of badger brush people would recommend.

I've done both face and bowl lathering and I find it still happens, although the issue is minor. When I looked it up after purchasing (I can't seem to find the box now to grab the model #), it did say hog and not boar. I know a hog and a boar are very similar, I just guessed that "hog" would be a cheaper version of boar, which to my understanding is a cheaper badger alternative.
In terms of quality of badger hair that I'd like, I'd probably go with best (pure, best and silvertip are the grades, no?)
I don't have the receipt anymore either. Again, it was $15 so it works for what it is I suppose.
In terms of stiffness, I don't really find it too scratchy or too soft...just not very good quality. When wet it looks kind of clumpy, almost as if the knot isn't dense enough, whereas more high quality brushes that I've seen people use seem to fan out beautifully.
If there's a website that is recommended for decent brushes (without having to spend an arm and a leg), that would help immensely!
I'm really just looking for someone to point me in the right direction for an upgrade.

There are many vendors that are members here. There are some great prices on brushes from $40 into the $100's. When you buy from one of our members, you can assure a good transaction.
Take an hour or so to look around the sites associated with our vendors.

Maybe when it said hog they meant it hogs the lather (bad joke eh?). Hog and Boar should be the same. it's either defective and you should take it back or possibly watch the pressure. Boar bristle are more prone to breaking if you apply too much pressure than badger which are by nature thinner and softer and more compliant.

be aware that there will be an odor from badger for a couple shaves shampooing helps before hand.
