I have heard people say that you should soak and clean your brushes. But haven't heard how too! Can you let me know what you use to clean them and how often you do? I have 3 badger brushes and one silver tip. Thanks!!:beer1:

Buy some of this stuff, works great and made for natural and synthetic brushes.

30 yrs of wet shaving,Ihave never cleaned a brush, rinse well, shake it out, hang till dry,and my first brush (Hofferitz) is still in perfect shape.
I learned from this video first;
Brush Cleaning Video | ShaveInfo.com About Wet Shaving
Mine get cleaned everytime I use them....with whatever soap or cream I use ;) I just rinse them and let them dry.
If you take the time to thoroughly rinse your brush after use you won't have to clean with any soap. It's only when you don't and the soap and residue starts to build up that you have issues. The only caveat to that is if you have water quality issues and then the minerals and soap can build up and it's almost impossible to rinse out and then at some point you need to give it a good shampooing.
A brush is after-all hair so pretty much anything you use on your hair you can use on the brush no matter if it's badger or boar or horse.
I am with pixelfixed on this question. And I have 3 silver badger brushes and one black badger brush.
Thanks guys. I asked a good one this time!!! I don't have any build up on the brushes at all. I'm going to just keep doing what I have been.....rinse off very well and hang dry it. I alternate brushes with razors everyday so the drying part won't be an issue. Thanks agin for all the help!!!!:beer1:
I've never cleaned mine, but brush maker Rodney Neep says you can shampoo them with baby shampoo and use hair conditioner on them.
I second the main theme of answers here or is it third, fourth, or fifth...?
Anyway the only cleaning I do to mine is when they are new/or new to me vintage, the only difference in procedure is the vintage get an alcohol spray post shampoo and pre conditioner.
I use gssixguns method as I have found it to work extremely well.
I don't per say clean mine at all just rinse out after shaving and hang dry .. Some people just use shampoo on them when there new ..
New knot should always be cleaned,I just recomend hand lathering, rinse and go.
And yes I just follow directions and build lather in palm of my hand and rinse...
:-) hope this helps

How to use
The brush bristles should be wet (not soaking) before use. Load the loft with soap or cream and apply to the areas to be shaved, using a strong circular motion. This softens the hairs and also raises them ready for shaving.
We strongly recommend the following aftercare for your brush; When finished always rinse the brush under hot water (especially at the base of the bristles) to remove any remaining soap residue which can result in damage to the bristle and cause early shedding of the loft. The brush should then be stored loft facing down to dry. This can be achieved by using a shaving brush stand and prevents the bristles rotting at the base due to moisture.
