Default Amboyna burl, Maple burl, crotch walnut.

Last weekend I got on the lathe and couldn't stop. I had 3 brush knots and decided to turn handles for all of them. This whole past week I've spent getting the high gloss poly just right. I have no idea how many coats ended up on these, at least 7.

This first one is a big boy, with a 30mm finest 2 band set at a 53mm loft. The wood I used is stabilized maple, big leaf, burl from B.C. This was my take on a chubby 3, not quite the same but close. I turned it from a pic on my phone. Highly figured with spots of flame figures and lots of eyes.

Second is a 26mm finest F2 set at 50mm. This was ordered from a local DE shaver who picked the knot and the shape of the handle. I added a burn line in the middle to break up the 2 handle slops. In my opinion It turned out very well. I have lots of this crotch walnut and every piece just keeps amazing me with its figures.

Last but not least is a 28mm finest 2 band set at 53mm loft. This one is turned from a beautiful piece of amboyna burl. I love the shape of the handle on this one. My wife helped me draw this one up and it turned out excellent! The figures on this is tons of eyes all the way around.

The wife has a hard time keeping me off the lathe these days. She has trouble giving me crap though, a lot of the stuff she keeps . I just hacked a burl off a tree, on the side of the road last weekend marked to be cut down by the township. Should make for a nice salad bowl. Police didn't show up at the door so I guess no one saw!

They look great beautiful finish, there's something so tactile about wood you couldn't look at those brushes without picking them up.
