I recon you can reuse the ivory and jade so put this one down to experience, still these things are sent to try us, the next brush will be even better.

When I have an issue such as you have here, I will look things over and see if I did something wrong. Then look at it as a learning lesson. Inspect the work piece to see if it has a plan "B" and can still be used but with the desired results I have set for myself.
But most of the time they end up in the bucket-o-wrecks. Then move on and start again or evaluate another plan of attack!!
Things like this happens even when you have made every effort to cover all the bases!
You just put it behind you and move on!!

I'm not familar with your lathe setup but is the ivory the top? I would drill straight through to the otherside and plug it with something like horn on bothsides. Might save it....Cause that sure looks like it would be a sweet brush handle
the old time gunmakers had a what they called woodwelling. they would drill a hole and then make a plug out of the same wood then put them together. the process is too long to go into here but it worked. some of the old gun-smith books might show you better than me. sorry it happened to ya . good luck in the future
