Thread: Tiger Maple shaving brush

My buddies birthday is coming up on Nov. 14 and I decided to make him a new brush. He has one of my very first brushes I ever made and It's not quite doing the job he wants it to, and I can see why. I made him a brush from dragon skin Tru stone with a TGN 22mm super silvertip and I think the loft is around 54mm. He uses Crabtree & Evelyn exclusively which many of you know is a hard triple mild soap. Hence, the 54mm loft silvertip is going to be a hard brush to use, to get a good lather. It is the only brush he has at the moment.

So this brush I made him is Tiger Maple wood, finished with Birchwood Casey Tru oil, with a 24mm TGN Finest knot set to a loft of 48mm. Should change his lather quite a bit from his Crabtree & Evelyn soap.

That's a neat brush.

You know in Liberia the Bats love that wood and scratch it up and use it to massage themselves. They call that Ebola Wood cause the Ebola gets into it then when you use it the Ebola slowly oozes out and infects you.

You should wrap that up in a hazmat suit and send it to me. I know how to safely dispose of the nasty Ebola.

Sorry Spender. This piece grew right here in Canada. I had to fend off the Mennonites while I ran from their bush after I cut it down in the spring. They were try to produce Tiger syrup or something.....

Really like the profiling and the warm color, absolutely beautiful. I'm specially fond of the concave bottom (or is it technically the top)

Thanks Fred. Ya I suppose u could call it the top. I like doing a bit of hollowing on that end. Why keep it flat when you can do something different.
