Got bored last night and today and threw a chunk of some scrap burl into my stabilizer tank. I was more than half expecting this not to work since it was a very porous burl. I wanted to try a somewhat traditional shape this time. After sitting in the stabilizer tank overnight I pulled it out an threw it on the lathe. It of course had several spots that had to be filled, but I left a lot of the smaller holes in tact to keep the natural character of the wood in all its imperfections. A good coat of CA finish and some sanding/polishing up to 12,000 grit and I ended up with a glass smooth finish. I am overall VERY happy with the results, the colors blend extremely nicely with the 30mm Whipped Dog Silvertip I put in it!
