Olive wood M7 brush
A brush I turned last night for a friend. These blanks were air dried dried for 7 years, and were very very dry. Once I cut into the blanks, it was amazing to see the inside was still quite oily.
The handle is made from Olive wood and then finished with Tung oil. Love turning this wood. Makes the whole shop smell like fresh Olive oil...... Now if I only knew what fresh Olive Oil smelled like.... Style is based on the Simpson M7, and the badger is a 24mm 2 band.

It's fantastic wood Bob. Turns great, sands well, and takes an oil finish very well too. I almost don't want to wear a respirator when I'm using this wood, the smell is fantastic. I even made my wife smell the end grain when it was freshly cut.

Looks great as it smelled while turning Andrew!
Only made pens from olive wood but the smell is most memorable and sweet.
Love those 2 band knots!

I'll save you a chunk of this Mike. I have a lot. 2x2 so it's nice for bigger sized handles too.

That wood is beautiful. The fact you have fun turning such awesome handles is just a bonus.

Thx Andrew, will give you some of this wonderful burl in kind,,
Almost worked up the nerve to cut into that big slab Shaun sent me. Thinking a bowl and handle combo in 30 mm 2 band.. Maybe even a matching razor..
For another thread though.
That olive wood would be great as a handle, what with its natural water resistance I would figure..
Again, really nice shape to it buddy!

Thanks to you all, I've still been a lazy ass and haven't done anything to start my new shop. This one I did, again with the lathe on the floor. Damn legs were cramping and falling asleep. I may whip up a lathe stand out of some 2x4s, plywood and some locking casters. It's nice having your lathe at the perfect height when turning. At least that'll get me up off the floor until my shops done. I don't want to rush that either. It will be my forever shop and I want it to be perfect.

Beautiful, Andrew. Love it!

Tonight someone will have to make a hard choice; do they buy one of Andrew's beautiful brushes or do they buy food for their family.
Sadly,, another family in North America will go hungry. :(

Hay! You can actually LIVE off of Ramen noodles, you know! :rofl2:

Oh,, I know that.
When I was young, it was women, motorcycles & Pez Dispensers .
