Thanked: 2284Olive wood M7 brush
A brush I turned last night for a friend. These blanks were air dried dried for 7 years, and were very very dry. Once I cut into the blanks, it was amazing to see the inside was still quite oily.
The handle is made from Olive wood and then finished with Tung oil. Love turning this wood. Makes the whole shop smell like fresh Olive oil...... Now if I only knew what fresh Olive Oil smelled like.... Style is based on the Simpson M7, and the badger is a 24mm 2 band.

Thanked: 2284It's fantastic wood Bob. Turns great, sands well, and takes an oil finish very well too. I almost don't want to wear a respirator when I'm using this wood, the smell is fantastic. I even made my wife smell the end grain when it was freshly cut.

Thanked: 4206Looks great as it smelled while turning Andrew!
Only made pens from olive wood but the smell is most memorable and sweet.

Thanked: 2284I'll save you a chunk of this Mike. I have a lot. 2x2 so it's nice for bigger sized handles too.

That wood is beautiful. The fact you have fun turning such awesome handles is just a bonus.

Thanked: 4206Thx Andrew, will give you some of this wonderful burl in kind,,
Almost worked up the nerve to cut into that big slab Shaun sent me. Thinking a bowl and handle combo in 30 mm 2 band.. Maybe even a matching razor..
For another thread though.
That olive wood would be great as a handle, what with its natural water resistance I would figure..
Again, really nice shape to it buddy!

Fantastic looking brushes!
I have one razor with olivewood scales.
Guess I'm going to have to smell them.
