    Default Black & Tan , and amboyna

    Too Quiet in here wood turners...GET TO WORK!! hahaa

    Just finishing up a couple more, still working on the finishes and choosing knots. Nothing glued up yet. knot pictured is an Envy shave white supreme, my last one, it jumps from handle to handle for pics but would love to have a pile of them. nice dense knot with lots of backbone. Im still using mine in the rubber set since September, and really like it.

    Black & Tan , African Blackwood and curly maple.

    The finishes will get refined along the way after each dunk/soak in the oil, small sanding marks still slowly going away. Im an old stock maker, so my oil finishes go that direction rather than top coating anything.

    Both are fantastic! But that last one is truly elegant.

    Now that we have two brush makers on here;
    How do you guys connect/blend the different materials together, without them separating during use or a drop?
    Is it a trade secret??

    Thanks man!! Yeah ebony/blackwood and amboyna is a real nice pair together, I need to get some more. That is the leftover from an awesome piece I had. I cut some grips from it and this was the so so part of that hunk. the part the grips were cut from was unreal!

    Hirlau,

    I use epoxy or glue to do my stack ups depending on the material used. Both are usually stronger at the joint than the wood itself if done right.

    These I used epoxy , and I thought about the way I shake the brush after use so I reinforce mine just to be safe. I am sure the epoxy wont fail but would hate to have someone with a two piece brush that I made.

    I use a bottle stopper mandrel which requires a 1/4x20 threaded hole that extends 3/4" past the base of the bore for the knot, so this is a perfect reinforcement set up. On those above there is about 1/4" of the African blackwood that is drilled/threaded and down another 5/8" or so into the base piece of wood. that threaded hole can be filled with epoxy basically making a 1/4x20 epoxy bolt that runs the length of the bore, or Ill run a 1/4" drill bit down once Im done turning and glue a 1/4" grooved peg in place there . probably not needed but is an extra 2 mins work and piece of mind.
