Thread: Interesting wood

Finished this today,The wood is Tamboti (AKA African Sandlewood) large handle for a large Knot (TGN 30mm grade A)
The smell of this wood is amazing.
Brought it into the house,entire house smells like Sandlewood,great frag

Sounds lovely, if your whole house was left with a beautiful sandalwood scent, could you imagine how nice your clothes wardrobe would smell made of this wood. Wood is the most beautiful material, my favourite would be Welsh Holm Oak and Welsh Yew, I've made razor scales from both these woods, cut from a felled tree more than 600 years old, the top set of scales are made from Welsh Yew with a lovely natural red grain vain running through them, the second picture is Welsh Holm Oak.

No there's no noticeable aroma other than the nice smell of natural wood, in my local park there's a huge very old Cedarwood tree I walk past most days, and another larger Beech tree, the beech tree as a huge abnormal growth which I've watched grow since I was child on the trunk, I would imagine this to be full of beautiful and strand burl patterns I'm always wondering if they eventually take down the tree I would ask them to cut a large lump off for me.
