A good source of used and publishers' end of run books is Alibris:

You have a good taste with books, Sir! Steinbeck is one of my all time favorites.
I've read all the 5 parts from Game of Thrones written this far. They were pretty interesting, better than i did expect from any so called fantasy books. Although even the TV serie was pretty loyal to books, i never got hooked into it. Seen only few episodes from the 1st season.
During my vacation i've been on the light line with books, mostly. Did at least Dying Detective (GW Persson), Colors of War (Babtsenko, not so light after all), Elephant keepers' children (Høeg, one of the funniest books ever) and Other kingdoms (Matheson)
Anyone ever read "CENTENNIAL" by James A. Michener.
Absolutely great American adventure. Rather long read but hard to put down.

P.S. The first book I ever read cover to cover was Melville's "MOBY DICK".
That was 9th grade 1958. Been a reader ever since.
James A. Michener, a great novelist. One of my favourites, Earl Thompson, Tattoo. Gritty and raw.
i generally find reading two books by the same author consecutively problematic, unless the books are quite different, whereas watching a tv series on dvd is good because you notice all of the little bits and bobs that the producers and directors hide in the various episodes, i usually end up with series that get sropped after 2 seasons, except lost which was completely dissapointing at the end, i wish i had been left in suspense.
