Interesting, and a twist to open no less. Sometimes progress ,i.e. post DE, turns out to be regress. :)
I have mixed feelings on this.
For one, I'd much prefer if men would stop drinking the Gillette Kool-Aid and come to their senses. DE's are far superior to cart's in every way.
On the other hand, if DE's suddenly surged in popularity the cost of those (razors and blades) would likely skyrocket as a result, and as a part-time DE user that's not something I want to see! ;)
I'd like to know where and who makes that TTO DE Gillette clone. I think in the meantime I will stick with vintage Gillette TTOs for the same or less money and a known quality product. OTH I think Rick Harrison knows what he is doing and sees a viable niches market to try and cater to. Hope it works for him.
Bob
Hey Bob!
Where do the 'clones' come from/who makes them? While I may be way off base here, I'd bet a dollar to a dog t**d that they come from China!!:banghead:
I'm wondering if there are any members out there with a lot of experience with not only vintage DE's but some of the more modern ones like the Edwin Jagger and the Muhle's etc that would like to take this clone and it's blades for a ride!
I'd pop for it and have it delivered for a trial run, it could then be sent to me or to another just as long as it came home for me to have a go with it!
Obie!?!?!? What say ye? I know you have a lot of experience with DE's! Anyone else interested??
If you are, let us know and soon! I'm sure it's all hype but the offer is supposed to be a limited time deal!
One persons opinion.
Jonathan
Well I just got done reading the article and watching the video and as far as the shaving demonstration goes, not bad! Stretching of the skin would have been preferred but overall not a bad demonstration!!
As I thought, the DE is probably made in China! As the poster has said only time will tell how it holds up!
Thanks For Posting! :tu
I'm still game if any of the serious veteran DE users out there would like to try it for comparison, just let me know!!
These razors popped up in a large display at the entrance to Wal Mart about 3 weeks ago, I looked one over & considered getting one to test, but I thought that if I brought it home, my vintage DE's would leave me. I'll look tomorrow at them again & get a location of manufacture.
If I get it, would one of you DE guys try it & evaluate it?
I'll try it once, sanitize it, then mail it to one of the veteran DE guys here.
John!
If you pick it up, I'll pay for half of the purchase price and shipping to a veteran DE user!
Scouts Honor!
Nice offer,,,I'll pick it up, ship it to you first,,then you ship it to someone else to evaluate,,,
No problem! After all you've done for me, it's the least I could do! I'll pm you with shipping details!
If it comes with the blades do you plan on using them or are you going to be using one of your own??
Just wondering!
It it comes with more than one blade, I will use one, if only one blade, I'll leave it for you guys,,,I'll use it with a feather, though, before I send it.
All results can be posted in this thread that Bob started.
Wal Mart sent the razors back, either yesterday or the day before, they were a holiday display item only, according to the manager,,,I talked to a few hours ago.
No evaluation from me,,,oh well,,,
DE shaving is still pretty popular in the rest of the world, so its possible they are from somewhere else. I've been using the plastic Gillette 7oclock (made in India) as a travel razor. While its no replacement for my Tech, its actually well designed, and gets the job done. Hopefully if there gets to be a few more DE shavers around, then the big companies will keep production going.
I'm afraid that most guys that try this razor are not going to know about proper prep and shave technique, and they'll not have a good experience.
Pretty sure those are Weishi DE's?
