    Default I'm going to Vegas!

    Gents,

I've never been to Las Vegas. But thanks to Honda, I'm going in April. By achieving Gold status (selling over 190 new Honda vehicles in a year), I get to go have dinner, get an award, and then finish it all off with breakfast the next morning. Night one will be spent at the Bellagio (Honda pays for this), but I plan to stay a couple of more nights. Now, I sell a lot of cars, but I don't make a lot of money. Any suggestions on a decent priced hotel to transfer to? I'd like to stay below $150 if possible.

Congrats on winning the trip! If you want cheap, then head downtown. I have only stayed at very inexpensive hotels in the "Holy Land" as there are many other things to spend your money on in Vegas! Across the street from the Bellagio and north a little bit is the Sahara, one of the cheapest places on the strip. The Sahara is isolated, but there is a monorail that will take you anywhere along the strip. If you want to be by all the action, then the Excalibur is right in the heart of most of the action.
If you decide to go downtown, then look into the El Cortez. I love that place because of it's history, it was owned by Bugsy Segal. The Golden Nugget will cost a little more $$$, but it's downtown's only 4 star hotel.
Even if you decide to stay on strip, you may want to consider doing your gambling downtown. There's a double decker bus that will take you back and forth for around $5 each way.
Have a great time, you'll probably end up making the trip again!

Vegas, is like a second home! IN Hawaii, we call it the 9th island. I'm with cudahogs, downtown is cool. If you want to to ritz it up, the Rio is not too bad $135 for a suite (all the rooms are suites).
I'm a fan of Main Street if you plan on staying Downtown. They have this one Black Jack table there...
I've also stayed at the luxor and MGM. Both nice. Really, all the rooms seem about the same to me and you really don't see too much of the rooms. I think Cuda hit it just right when he said, spend your money elsewhere.
The only difference I've noticed between the rooms downtown and the rooms on the strip are that the strip rooms (that cost twice as much) usually have big tub, a nice wall paper...that's about it.
Hope you have a good time...oh and check out some of the nicer bars (if you are into that kind of thing) that the Rio has to offer. They have some of the best flair bartender/mixologist in the US working there. I think that at the Voodoo lounge the chef that won the chocolate competition on food network is still making desserts.

I have to go to vegas one week every year for a company meeting. We have a lot of fun, but man does it drain the hell out of you. There are plenty of cheaper hotels right off the strip that and in april it wont be so hot that you cant walk to the strip from the hotels. If you absolutely want to stay on the strip I would recommend Harrah's, it isnt very expensive, its right accross the street from the Belagio, the restaurants are excellent, and its pretty much smack in the middle of all the fun stuff. The service is also very good for the price. I have stayed at many of the hotels, but my whole group keeps going back to Harrahs because of the convenience and service. If you do book there, book through there website, they give you almost the same rates as we get in our group rates for over 100 people.

    I've been in Vegas once.
My advice is to stay in one of the Casinos on the strip.
I can't remember the name of the one we stayed at, but there are several large casions where you can stay for 60$-70$ per night.

After all, the casinos are out to get your money. They often have good value for money rooms because they are more likely to get it if you stay there for a couple of nights.

Of course, 'famous' casinos like the bellagio or caesars palace might be more expensive.

I had a thought about the El Cortez again. It does have a barber shop on the second floor that will give you a straight-shave for around $15.00. There are other places to get a straight shave in Vegas, but not for under $50.00

Have you tried Orbitz or Travelocity? My wife would stay at a suite type hotel across from the Hard Rock Cafe. Its about a mile east of the strip, towards the airport. The advantage was that there was no casino.

    Hey RT,

Something that we keep track of here in Hawaii is the going ons in Vegas, and one of the things that you might want to watch out for is that a lot of people are getting sick at the downtown Hotels right now. It also happened about a year ago. Somekind of bug that is also commom on the cruise ships I think. They are doing all they can to get rid of this problem, but you might want to check up on that before you get yourself down there
