Born in the 50's, 60, 70's...stuff we grew up with!

Found this, very interesting, I certainly remember most of this stuff, especially the 130 in 1 electronics kit!! Definitely was a different time, think I'll leave it at that:

Anyone who was BORN in the 50's - 60's-70's...We are the last generation who played in the street. We are the 1st who played video games & the last to record songs off the radio on a cassette tape. We walked over a mile w/no worries on being taken...Learned how to program the VCR before anyone else...Played from Atari ...to Nintendo...We are the generation of Tom and Jerry/Looney Toons & Captain Kangaroo...We traveled in cars w/out seat belts or air-bags & lived without cell phones. We did not have flat screens, surround sound, iPods, Facebook, Twitter, computers & the Internet...But nevertheless we had a GREAT time!

Ahhhh, those were the days. Now a days as a smoker, I remember when we'd go on a trip and my Dad would smoke in the Airport, on the Plane, wherever. Not saying it was the healthiest world but it was a world without fear…lol.
And the good ole Dyno Labelers…I had tonnes of fun putting my name on everything…lol

I remember 8 track, LP's, 45's, cassette tapes. Cartoon's were on Saturday's only and early in the morning if you slept in you missed out. Disney was on Sunday nights. Shows - The A-Team, Knight Rider, Bionic Man, The Incredible Hulk. I seen my first computer in 4th grade, a monitor and keyboard were all one unit and a black & white screen. I had a video game called Intellivision.
First Movie I went to was in 76' it was Star wars. Hmmm...... seat belts were still an option I believe.

Don't forget Speak & Spell! I would hold down the R key-Great times.

I still remember watching TV in B/W as a kid. Zorro, John Wayne, Tarzan, Daktari,... Sure has been a ride since.

My dad will be 99 this year and he has seen the world change from common usage of horses to the first cars and two major world wars and the early days of electricity and the beginning of radio and none of the labor saving devices we have now like washing machines and electric refrigerators and fans and A/C and I can go on and on. So you guys born in the 50s on think you have seen change?

Born in 48, but remember the 50s,Going to the post office to make a phone call (10 cents) party lines when we got a home phone.
501 levis,$3.25 per pair, pendalton shirts, 12 bux ea. gas 25 cents/gal, bulk moter oil 5cents/qt, cigs, 25/pack.
Bought our first home computor in 81, was about 4 grand,I still use AOL:)

And, one day, having a beer in a local pub, met this very kind man who worked at the CBC for 35 years plus, we got to talking, and told him about a friend of mine who always got very sentimental when he heard the opening song of this kids show. Lo and behold, the guy worked on that show and was the set carpenter, who actually pulled the strings to open the drawbridge.

One of the cool things in the fifties was what they called variety shows. Ed Sullivan, Milton Berle, Jimmy Durante and the like. All of these had entertainers who had played vaudeville and took those acts to television. Even in the movies stars like Abbot & Costello and the Marx Brothers were often duplicating what they had done on the stage in vaudeville.

Shows I recall watching when I was really young were Sergeant Preston of the Yukon, Rin Tin Tin and when I was allowed to stay up Gunsmoke when it was a half hour. All the shows except for some of the variety type were a half hour to begin with. Alfred Hitchcock, Twilight Zone. Great stuff those.

I can remember when movies were a quarter and that was for first run features. There was a theater downtown that ran grade B flicks and the admission was fifteen cents for three features. Movies had the previews (coming attraction) and then a newsreel followed by the feature and then a cartoon. My grandpa took me to one and it showed ironworkers building a skyscraper, walking the iron away up high. I told my grandpa that I wanted to do that and he told me they were "lunatics." :)

I grew up with a neighbor that made it to 105 years young, she passed almost 25 years ago now. I used to love spending time with her when I was younger, she would tell stories and share photos.
Things like the Crows nest at the four corners in town with the officer directing traffic.
We had a black and white TV and a party line phone when I was young. I remember when Atari came out, when premium TV was one channel IT, when cable became available, computers well I was in 8th grade when they made it to us and Apple was it. I garbage picked a Tandy 32 and fixed it, that was our first computer, and I was accused of stealing it because nobody would throw out a home computer.

And for the record I miss Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In....

Loved Wild Kingdom. But don't forget all the great shows from the legendary Jack Webb .... Dragnet (radio and tv version), Adam 12, Emergency! ... Roy and Johnny are one of the reasons I'm a paramedic today.

I love that show, I actually have the DVD of Victory at Sea, World War I and World War II in Color. Plus, for the last several years, I have been fascinated with studying the American Civil War, so I purchased Ken Burns Documentary, "The Civil War".

In the DVD's for the First World War, there's a scene showing the Victory Parade in the States, and if you watch the parade, toward the end, you can see soldiers marching wearing the Blue and the Grey uniforms...

But Victory at Sea, never tire of seeing that...

Still available from Belle and Blade! I have it and watch it at least once a year or more. There is the Army version also and I don't remember the same exactly but like Victory on land or similar and still available.

Yeah, I remember when we got our first TV, early 50's, I was about 6 or 7. It had a round screen and a green tint. It was like watching on a radar screen. :D

The old 1950s TVS ....... The screen would roll vertically, or horizontally and you had to get up and adjust a little knob to plumb it up ........ but as soon as you got up it would stop ....... and as soon as you sat back down it would start rolling again ...... those were the days . :banghead:

Jimmy, my dad had one of those for the family, it must have been old because the original antenna was gone, so he used a clothes hanger with a wadded up ball of aluminum foil on the end of it instead.

Born mid-70s; raised on a farm. Cable TV was not an option. So we'd have to take turns going outside to turn the antenna to pick up the different stations from the two closest cities.

I recently picked up a 1984 Montgomery Wards Holiday Wish Book. That will really take you back.

Yep back in the 60s UK television broadcasting we only had 3 channels usually with a little box mounted on the window sill and a small turnable switch to change channels, I remember buying my first Action Man during the early 60s known in the USA as G.I. Joe, purchased my first Corgi James Bond gold Aston Martin car from W H Smiths, sitting in the bath with original shrink to fit Levi's, also remember there not being as much litter around as plastic bags didn't really happen food and goods usually came in real paper which we all ended up burning on the coal fire, watching all the Cowboy series Gun Smoke Bonanza, Rawhide, and the early Sci Fi the outer Limits the Twilight zone including classic 60s Star trek, I remember the 60s and 70s with a lot of good memories.

Yes! Good times! We had one of those antenna things. Turn the knob to the desired channel and it would start clicking and humming. Run outside and watch the antenna turn to face the closest station! Uptown!

I was born in '82, but I swear I was born in the wrong decade in a town that was still stuck in said decade... 80% of of the things you guys are bringing up we had, used or did. Another 10% I got to experience by watching "Nick at Nite", when the children's TV station Nickelodeon switched from children's programming to "classic" programming at 10 p.m. each night. "Get Smart", "Dragnet", "I Love Lucy", and so on were the norm for me. I once remember on SciFy on New Year's Day they decided to start playing the entire "Twilight Zone" series... as in, Rod Serling doing the intro of each and every episode until they had played them all.

I lost several days then... and many hours of sleep. :)

all this brings back memories and my age. I remember when electricity came through where I lived. I remember laying in the floor listening to the radio that was powered by a battery. my first tv show. my mother cooking on a wood stove. exploring the woods and fields where we lived. hunting and fishing with my farther. no matter where you are or what you do. make good memories so later in life you can recall them and live them over again and again.

A great stroll down memory lane to a time when a few folks actually used outdated relics like straight razors. Imagine that.

For those of us in the US and Canada, this is probably something we all share. I had one and thought it was awesome! First time us kids were allowed to go with the, "men", hunting. For us kids it was either Pheasant or Partridge we were after, we never saw a thing, but we had an awesome time!

Small town Minnesote 1940's
Granpa took the sights off the daisy to teach me wing shooting using smaller and smaller thrown objects. I had a large bruise on my left thigh from constantly cocking it for the next shot. We would go through about two tubes of BBs every time we got together.
Shooting meant the we didn't shoot anything that wasn't food. The built in stewpot at the back of the electric stove was full from Sept to March and anything without toothmarks went in. Booya!
I got a Twennyritwoful for my 10th birthday and a .410 the year before.

Brings to mind riding a cobbled-together 'dirt bike' from parts found at the town dump. 20 incher, no fenders, mud tires front and rear. Some high-rise bars and a seat from a 10 speed. Baseball bat slung over the shoulder with the glove threaded on it over my back kept it there with the ball in my hat stuck in my back pocket. Headed down a dirt road shortcut to the field. Miss all that stuff. Not a worry in the world except for ammo, innertubes, fish hooks, and sodas! A few lawns mowed took care of everything! :)
