    Dennis, The question doesn't include what the container would be to hold the water, so I'm 'presuming' that the question would only be about the combination of the containers.

    I 'think' that this is what the teacher was asking for is:

    If Bob used the 2 gallon bottle three times and the quart bottle 4 times then Bob would have '7 gallon's of water.

    Two gallons X's 3 is 6 there are 4 quarts in a gallon so a total of both would be 7 gallons.

    But HEY! I went to a small school and Math wasn't my best subject!!!!!

    Over 25 years ago I had a manager tell me that he wanted something done and I told him that I'd tell my crew to get it done. I verbally told the guy who would be in charge while I was off for a couple of days what needed to be done and I also left a note with instructions. When I got back after my days off the manager's request had not been done! I was called into the office and was asked why the task Had Not Been Done as my manager had requested.

    I told him that I had 'Assumed' that since I'd left a note and verbal instructions that the task would have been done as per the managers request.

    My Manager took out a pen and grabbed a piece of paper and divided the word 'assume' into three parts. I've never ever used the word 'assume' in conversation again unless I'm telling this tale!

    Once broken down, the word Assume is what my manager told me and that is that all it does is;

    Make an; Ass out of U and Me!!

    Ever since I always use the word 'Presume'!

    That's what I think also.
    To me the key to the question is "A" 2 Gallon bottle and "A" 2 Quart bottle, which lead me to the same answer as you.

    I think the teacher is not looking for this answer and should have worded it "2 gallon bottles" and "2 quart bottles", which I could answer - Three 2 gallon bottles and two 2 quart bottles.

    The way the whole question was worded I just felt like that "None" wasn't the answer she was looking for, but was the only answer I could come up with the way it was presented.

    Talk about off topic... Warm Bed out polls Hot Dog at almost 2:1. That makes, like, TOTALLY no sense.

    @Geezer - I think the Menomonie WI town dock seized a tall ship from Europe in 1976 for unpaid dock fees. Still so tight with a buck up there in Menomonie?

    As there was no question, i guess they might have been thinking "what is my second favourite thing?", or the hotdog voters were alrerady in bed, or they voted at lunchtime from a warm country after having a great sleep

    I figured my vote was like any other election and I had a 25% chance of getting it right.
