Have not had one for two years,I hate them.
I hate them also, but I carry one my kids gave me when I was going thru chemo as an emergency outlet. They are still paying for it so I still carry it. Used it, maybe, 4 times in the past year from the grocery store. I still hate them.
Hate the damn thing. electronic leash. 10 buck a month Pantech. Pay 250 a month for all 4 ofem's smarties and I gotta 10 dollar phone. Every time it rings, it costs me money.
Don't get me started! :soapbox:
I Wish :)

I've gone the other way. No land line, and my cell is my only phone. It has all the bells and whistles, allows me the freedom to do most anything I want online, etc. BUT I have no problem at all shutting it off, ignoring the ringer, and generally adapting its use to my usual misanthropic ways. :)
Dammit Kris , now i gotta visit dictionary.com again :)
I spend more than 6 months a year away from home. Mine is definitely needed, my wife on the other hand technically has one but does not carry it most of the time and even if she has it chances are it is not turned on unless she needs it for something. She may make 2 calls a year and doesn't see the point. However she is either home or at her office 95% of the time, both locations have phones. I get her point completely.
I have a cell phone but it's the most basic 11 year old flip phone I could find, and I'm the only person I know that still has one. I have absolutely no use for iPhones/smart phones, texting or other modern phone "marvels". All I need is something that makes and receives calls..... In other words, a phone LOL
Me and you, Ryan. A phone! :rofl2:
I have multiple computers which can also make and receive phone calls. I don't see anything wrong with talking to other people.
I do wonder, however, why those of you who do not have cell phones or dislike them, feel this way. After all you are on a discussion board communicating with thousands of people, so it isn't like you are hermits.
The future is coming. Not everyone has to accept it, but it will arrive either way.
I wish I could live without them ,, no one visits their friends and family anymore ,, heck we don't even talk anymore we just text. but like Rez said ,, I work away from home 260 days a year ,, its my only form of contact with my family and friends so ,, in our new world , unless I want to be isolated im forced to accept it ,, maybe next year when I retire, but the kids still live so far away ,, and so do friends too tc
I am a hermit.I want to be isolated.I worked in the med.Prof for 43 yrs.I was on call 24/7,for 43 yrs.
I was tied to pagers and cell phones for 43 yrs even when I took a very rare week of Vacation, maybe 10 times in 43 yrs.
You want to contact me? send me an email,I may read it,if not, your communication can be deleated.
I long for a simpler life,pre cellphone.
@ 65 years old I've only had a cell phone for 2 years and I love it. It is a 'smart' phone, a Droid Razr. How could I resist buying a phone with a name like that ? The ability to communicate 24/7 is a good thing AFAIC.
I have an old flip phone for just in case. I don't text and only take it on vacation when I go by car in case we are needed back home for an elderly relative. Other than that could live without one. Mind you pay phones are getting few and far between.
When that flip phone dies I have another flip phone to replace it given to me by a buddy who constantly up grades.

I was reluctant to get the cell phone. TBH the fact that it was called "Razr" really attracted me, and I like the size, slimness. So having gone for it in Nov. of 2011, I knew that I would never give up my land line. Three months later the land line was gone and I don't miss it. Cell phones are the only way to go. You guys who don't like them probably shave with straight razors ! :rofl2:
Search out the last cell phone thread where you asked the same question and we answered No wait - library are boring. I will regale for fun: I don't have a cell phone because I have no self control
Jimmy: funny, I did the opposite. Had a cell phone and never a land line until '06 when I got a land line - and then got rid of the cellphone a bit later :D
When I worked I had to carry 3 cell phones most of the time. When I retired I said good riddance. My wife bought me a basic phone to carry but I rarely carry it.
My phone is glued to my hip, or in my hands 24/7.
Couldn't imagine being without it, not even for a single day.
I do, however, answer incoming calls only when it is appropriate.
Friends and family have tired of trying to reach me after I have ignored their calls for years while working.
With a bit of discipline, it can be an aid and a wonderful tool, without that it will end up controlling you.
1/2 mile of coverage more and I will have no land line :) the cell service drops like a curtain about hallway down the road :(
That being said I rarely use a phone anymore,,
In the nightclubs we had to have instant communication so we progressed over the years from earbud radios to Nextel beeper phones..
In the car business a cellphone is your constant companion, sometimes in one ear and the landline in the other..
Now the computer does 90% of my communication, and honestly I do more texting with the wife and family then I do talking, she and my sister are busy at work, so it is actually easier for them to text when available, rather then to try and talk...
What I really hate is having two phone bills
same with my wife and family...we hardly ever call each other anymore. we use to call if we had something to say that was just way too long to send as a text, but with the voice recognition built into phones these days, its just as easy to hit the little microphone button and speak.
we dropped our Lan line a few months so only because we already pay $140 per month for 2 smart phones. We are lucky enough however to live in a relatively rural area with excellent Verizon coverage
glen you mean im the only one who calls instead of email? lol,, I cant wait till I don't need one ,pixel your living the dream!
tc
I wouldn't dream of being without a cell phone. I use it much because it is so good to have for so many things.
I've never own a cell phone. Have my same hardwire phone number for 25+ years. Like some posted here I was on call 24/7 for a 40+ year career and had to carried company phone for some of that. Wife has one with roadside aid on it because she commutes.
I think it is all what a person needs and or what needs a person develops. ;) I am so glad to not be on call anymore. GAWD! did I hate it.
I had 1 of the first cells to be had in a big rig. It made me money scheduling work when I couldn't get near a land line. I had 1 on my bass boat so I could fish and still not miss work. All that went away and I got a job where I wound up carrying 2 talkie phones. Now I have a smart phone and don't use much more than the computer, camera, gps parts of it. I like to push a couple of buttons and speak into it only to have a map pop up and give me directions to the nearest fuel.
I have only spoken into one of those evil devices one time. I was at a perfectly good cookout when a buddy's cell rang. He answered and handed it to me saying, "It's for you." Someone I really didn't want to talk to knew I was there and called my friend's phone with a totally inconsequential question that could have waited until I saw that person the next day. I am constantly amazed at the number of people who wander around with one of those devices hanging from their ear. It's like they are saying, "Look how important I am. I can't afford to miss a single call." Excuse me while I return to my cave and beat my tom-tom to get the attention of the guy who lives in the cave over the next ridge.

All of my posts on here come from my mobile phone, through Tap a Talk. It's handy for contacting people abroad over skype and whatsapp and far cheaper than other methods. With this said, I do despair at the snapchat addicts who seem to gain osmotic nourishment from sending banal selfies to each other and socially exclude a more interesting real world.
