I grew up in the country, and I used to make little quick-and-dirty bows out of switch cane for carrying around when I was rummaging around in the woods and didn't want to make a lot of noise with a rifle. You can make a surprisingly useful bow by taking 8-12 switches and arranging them in a staggered pattern so there's a gradual taper towards the ends of the limbs, then tying them together with a good nylon cord or duct tape and tying a bowstring on the ends. For the switchcane around our place that usually worked out to 45-60 lbs of draw.
