    Default Fishing

For the life of me, I couldn't believe there wasn't a thread on fishing. I recently bought another boat (haven't had one in over 10 years) and started back up fishing. Man, I forgot how much it is like golf...something you can get good at, but never truly master.

For my boat, I decided on a welded aluminum boat. I felt the fiberglass boat I had before was just too heavy, so I went with a Bass Tracker Pro Team 175TXW from a semi-local boat dealer. It had all the "goodies" I wanted for the dollar. Now that I have had it for about 6 months the only gripe I have is that I didn't get the 75 hp two-stroke option...mine is the 60 hp four-stroke. While it is a real gas sipper for a 18' boat, it doesn't get out of the "hole" as fast as I would like loaded with two people, a full tank of gas, and gear. I added a "whale-tail" and have messed with several props, only to comprimise. It does get out of the water ok with the 4 blade stainless prop and tops out at 38 mph (gps).

Now for the fishing. I haven't really done so well off rod and reel, but I have been wearing them out on trotline. My closest lake is Hugo Lake and it's a silty lake, the bass just isn't very good here. The crappie is great though, I just got my boat towards the end of the crappie season. The catfish on the otherhand is excellent on juglines and trotlines. Every time I put them out I end up with something for the fryer.

Thus, the reason for my starting a fishing thread: I put out four trotlines out (the max # of hooks I am allowed in Oklahoma) yesterday after working all night and after church this morning I plan on running them. I will only run the lines and not re-bait as I will pull up the lines Monday morning. Hopefully I will have some pics to post for you guys!

Share your fishing adventures and stories, I would love a bit of advice from you seasoned guru's too! I will get some pics up this evening or soon.
