Yeah, I think US has a bit overoptimistic view about the extent of meritocracy and fairness in the system. The zero-sum component of the economic equation is fairly large, and I've always been surprised that so many people seem to not realize how they're being screwed, and blaming whatever distraction is thrown at them by the propaganda.

Yeah it's not exactly zero-sum, or at least it shouldn't be. But I agree that it's hard to create value when the wealth is pooling at the top of the chain.
