Interesting read,thx for the link,I was thinking about fires in Euc forests,that stuff is almost explosive due to the oil content.
In my state they started planting eucs to use as railrod ties 125 yrs ago,the grew like weeds.
Now they are trying to eradicate them do to the extreame fire hazards in urban areas.
Makes for some fantastic stovewood when dry tho:)

guess by now all is well with yourself, Mt Torrens is a pretty little village, hopefully no damage. I went through the ash wed fires years ago, never seen anything like it. We had a fire just a few miles east of us the other night, dry storm, 3 strikes, 60 volunteer units and helitacs, all out now. I hate to know about all the stock, wildlife, pets. An uncle and aunt of mine lost everything in an Adelaide Hills fire back in 1960, some friends of mine lost everything in Vernal Utah a few months ago from a bushfire. I hate the bloody things, and to find idiots deliberately lighting them.
Ember attack is often what does you home in, and you need to be set up to fight it, at least a petrol, preferably one of those little pull start diesel pumps, less affected by heat, and keep your gutters etc clean. We have emergency generators here which will keep our house pumps running. Here we go for another really hot summer down under, good luck to all.

Mainly they are what we might call 'bush fires', fires in scrub. We have a LOT of gum trees (Eucalypts) which contain a lot of flammable oil. Around here we have a fair amount of 'farmland', just 'stubble' (short dry grass) really, but also some pine plantation (including other trees). This fire got in to the plantations and also some scrubland. Also it was very hot at the time.

I guess when you live in the driest state in the driest continent there's going to be issues :-)

Over the last few days we've had some good rain, so the fire is 100% contained now.

I am ok, i am in karratha until Wednesday, family ok too, though I saw heelerau's post and he isn't too far from my house, probably only 20 km or so, maybe a touch further.
As we have no emotional attachment to our house we would just leave probably.
