Here you go X - I'm with you mate :tu :tu
My wife and I bought 2 acres of wet sclerophyll native forest - cleared and fenced 3/4 of an acre, planted it with natives and whacked our house on it. We've left the other acre or so untouched for the wildlife to enjoy.
We've got a green tree snake living in our mailbox - the mailman just dumps the mail on the front lawn nowadays.
We water our plants using grey water from the kitchen and bathrooms and laundry. We use our rainwater tank to wash the car.
I lecture statistics at Australia's first (original) environmental science school, and am actively involved in environmental and socio-environmental research.
We buy our fruit and veg. from a local organic farmer's market every Sunday.
Professionally, I'm cautious about saying global warming is occurring, or that man is involved - in my professional view the data is not there, whether it be from core samples, fossilized tree rings, or any other "pseudo data" that's available. Doesn't mean it's not true, just means that I feel there's not enough quality evidence to make a definitive call one way or the other. I lecture that a statistician needs to remain as impartial as possible, critique the data and then let it speak for itself, and I believe that.
However, at a personal level I try to do whatever I can to minimize my impact on the planet.
(I know - I'm a saint, and absolute saint!)
James.
