Tom, they will never get it or listen. If work stops, nothing comes in, except the bills and don't know what they are thinking, I guess what they do not see is that those that look like they have everything really have nothing because its all on credit cards. And those who look like they have nothing may be rich because they rarely if ever by anything that they don't need or can't outright pay for it.Quote:

It's been a thing as long as the patch has paid good money ,, I started when it wasn't so good , just lots of hours , but the young guys just won't learn, just about everyone makes over 100k and they don't have anything left for the bust, as I started making more I put more away, I have never lived in the patch , I always done 28 and 14 hitches until I was over seas then 60/30 . My home has always been here in memphis, besides my wife wouldn't put up with living that far from town. As a drilling superintendent they always provided me with housing out there and they rest of the men in man camps, it's good they will get you a place the prices were so inflated for it being southeast New Mexico. On the way out to the interview, they asked that I stay in Van Horn even though it was farther to drive. The motels in VH were half of what they were in Pecos. I bought the room the second night as we went sight seeing in the Cavern. I didn't want to drive back at night so we camped out in the old Midcontinent Inn in Carlsbad. They paid the extra mileage through VH up to Pine Springs where the job is.
I had plenty of chances to go to the patch to work, but for some reason or another, I sidestepped. At this point in the game, I'm glad I did. As crippled up as I am now from all the stuff I did I can only imagine what kind of shape I'd be in if I hadn't sidestepped.
Yeah, I had buddies wearing the beepers back in the late 70's, on call and making lots of dough. Was never for me. I am pretty much a homebody. I saw lots of relationships sour as to instant pack and run, gone for weeks. Takes a special pair to deal with it.
Back on topic, it has been raining hard here most of the day. I went into Lowes to get a bunch of things and pretty much got stuck in there for a while.....Spent too much! ;) Lots of folks there seemed pretty apprehensive. I suppose it is really coming down if you cannot hear yourself think in a place like that. I had a 15 gallon mop-bucket in the back of the truck I had just put in there before I arrived. It was halfway full as I left.
News said some parts are flooding again here. Nowhere for the water to go in some areas.
Borrowed a hammer-drill and finally got my sunken living-room drain pipe installed for next time. It took 2 tries. Hit some rebar the first time! Spraying mold stuff everywhere the water seeped in, got me some 'Damp-rid' and stuck it in the little car after a liberal dousing of the mold-killer. Got some nice Italian porcelain tile coming Monday at a smoking deal.
Hmmm. I wonder if I can get him to do the laundry room too?
The patch has been too unstable, for political reasons, to bank a family's welfare on it. Some have made it through as tool pushers, maybe dropping to drillers, etc. and willing to constantly relocate to survive it, but just too politically volatile to risk the entire future of your family on it.
In 1982 I was a driller in Okla. and when we finished a hole, they told us the rig was going to the yard. Turned out it was in a field and they kept "my" the day crew to guard the equipment...$7.00 an hour. Told them they'd need a new hand by tomorrow and never looked back. I guess a little :OT , but tc's posts kinda got the old juices flowing. :D

ps: Back on Topic....our forecast in Okla. is for clear and sunny for the next 7 days. So far we have only had 7 days without major rain in May and are around 23+ inches. Our only advantage is that we're rolling landscape and in most cases only the low areas around creeks and rivers have the major flooding. But there are many exceptions in towns and cities with poor storm drain systems.

I live not too far from Houston, and it rained here again all day. Luckily my house is high and dry, but the Brazos river is only a few feet from flooding a lot of people over here!
SUNSHINE all day today! Saw the moon shining this morning at 0400!
No rain in sight! Yard is still a bog, probably will be for a few more days yet.
