Hmmm.... well according to them anyway.

"Trump - Make America Great Again" When did America stop being great that it needs to be made great again?? Who falls for this? The same crowd that bought Hope and Change?
Are you serious? Do you live on your own island? I'm not going to blame any party as they all are worthless. Race relations are at an all time low since the mid 1900's. The dollar is worth less and less. Healthcare is a sham. The normal family is one parent. Prisons are overcrowded. I can go on and on...
I especially get a kick out of those who threatened to move to Canada over the legalization of gay marriage, not realizing that it's been a thing here for years and the sky hadn't fallen. :)
At the risk of annoying folks with another Canuck reference, I think this sums thing up nicely. Apologies if it has been posted to this thread before, but I don't think I've seen it here...

I return you to your regularly scheduled Unitedstatesian debating. :gl:
These are not problems from America lacking greatness. The problems you mention are more directly attributed to the rise and influence of progressive policy and big government. This is just more of the same vision that something is wrong with America and therefore America needs to be transformed or fixed. This is the message of the progressive left. The vision of Obama. Haven't we had enough of that?
As far as I can tell, Trump is just proposing more of the same. Same platitudes, same 'solution.'
Maybe a better way to put it is, America is still as great as ever, but she's been infected. Still great, but ill. I don't think Trump nor especially Clinton is the cure.
You do have a valid point. Labeling someone a criminal/defaming their character based on fabrication is not a good idea. I would consider that "smearing".
My point is criminal activity is criminal activity regardless of the outcome in a court of law. If a drunk driver kills an innocent person and gets off on a technicality, that doesn't mean the act never happened. That also doesn't mean the act wasn't criminal (drunk driving is against the law. It's a criminal act. The drunk driver committed a criminal act).

I hate this thread
Me too, and yet I keep reading it:popcorn:
Going out on a limb here - the underlined section is clearly true. After all, she got caught with classified emails on her personal email account. Not just a few, but in the thousands. If stupid were jet fuel, she'd be breaking the sound barrier.
As to the bolded part - it's a point of fact that having those documents on a private email server is a crime. It is also a point of fact that she's guilty as sin. We skewered General Petraeus over mishandling far fewer documents than this.
So why then has nothing really been done, save for congressional hearings ad nauseam? My thoughts on the matter are thus:
Republicans control both houses of the senate because Obama and crew have royally ticked off most of the country. So of course they're going to drag her into as many hearings as they can. Unfortunately when it comes to actually levying charges the responsibility falls to the 'Department of Justice.'
You work at Barack Hussein Obama, and Loretta Lynch's Department of Justice. Would YOU have the cast iron cahones required to scuttle your career by pinning the tail on the Democrat's current presidential front runner? Do you think for one hot second that Loretta Lynch or Obama would let that fly?
Make no mistake about it, if this had cropped up in 2008 she would be in a jail cell, or at least forced to resign. But as of right now the Democrats need her, and they control the DOJ. Bearing in mind that our current president's appointed officials in the IRS were found guilty of using their position to persecute Republican and right leaning entities, do you honestly think the DOJ is going to be impartial and apply the law fairly to the Democrat front runner for the office of President? Or are they going to turn a blind eye and deaf ear to Clinton's wrong-doing in hopes that she wins so Democrats can spend 4 more years pinning the blame on 'obstructionist Republicans' while the country burns because those same Republicans have caved to almost all of their demands?
So Clinton had thousands of classified documents on her private server.
You guys should stop reading the right wing press and get the facts. No classified docs have been found on her server. Some were classified after the fact but that is not a criminal act on her part.
Like I said before just because you guys wish she was guilty of something doesn't make it happen but keep trying I'm sure you'll come up with something racy and if you don't well just keep making it up.
By the way I'm amused with how they are referring to Trumps supporters as Trumpanzees-har har.
One question/explanation I have not seen is how can a Secretary of State do State Business on a personal email server and not have classified material on it?
because she had one at the State Dept and that is where she conducted most of the official business. She had the personal one for her convenience. At the time there was no policy against that and others had it to like the Defense Sect Carter.
It's because it's Clinton that the righties are making a deal over it because they are desperate to knock her out. Notice they haven't said anything about Carter.
I suppose it all depends on how one defines the greatness of a country.
For instance, do you realize that every human, in every country on earth, has the same basic unalienable rights as those mentioned in the Declaration of Independence and in the Constitution/ Bill of Rights? And that the United States is the first and only country in the history of human governance who's laws specifically recognize, and then protect, for it's citizens, each and every one of those rights, as well as others not mentioned, from governmental infringement? No other country does, or has ever done, that. In fact, most countries today, and all throughout history, have allowed their governments to ignore and blatantly stomp all over their citizen's natural rights, and allow them to exercise only those rights deemed agreeable.
Now, doesn't just that one thing alone make the United States a great country?
Nah, it's much more inconvenient to hire people to run an email server than just use the ones that are already set up and ran by the government.
I don't think there is some big conspiracy - she simply wanted to prevent her political opponents from scrutinizing her emails for attack material. All of us have been around long enough to know how these things are done.
May be she endangered the national security, may be she didn't, but she isn't stupid and I think she deliberately tried to keep the sensitive stuff through the official government channels. Most likely she was pretty effective at that because if there were something big or important I'd think we'd know for sure by now after all those congressional investigations.
What I am pretty sure is that increasing the level of nastiness isn't making America any better. Even if your clan wins.
Actually she should be treated like any other government employee regarding classified material.
I guess that is your definition of a great country. Mine would be being proud to be an American. I am not there at this time. I am one of those who feel the government does not act in the best interest of its citizens. And I have to tell you the last few months this Obama is just dreadful with his actions. No I am not looking for government to solve any of my problems. I just want a fair chance. This is the first time I voted in 7 years so I know where the nay sayers are coming from. I swore I would not vote again until some real political change took place. I think this might be a start not the end but a start. On November 8th I will cast my vote for Trump and sleep soundly. If Clinton becomes President then I think the people will get what they deserve.
Yep great country, just a bunch of not so great politicians bankrupting our system spending other people's money. Give a corrupt person a checkbook with out any restrictions and this is what you will have, GREED! The only way to get us back on track is to stop excessive spending on programs designed to encourage laziness, and deceit. Stop spending on illegals! Notice the word"Illegal" how can that be wrong to expect my Represenatives to responsible with our financial security.
It doesn't matter who we get, the runaway spending and the big government " TIT" needs to get under control, so who are you going to vote for? The woman who proposes to spend more on bigger government, or the guy who will probably do the same to a lesser extent? At least one of them does know that you need to stop freebies.
It's a sad country that really don't have any real Americans who wish to serve as our Represenatives without the self serving greed they all have.
Tc
From the mid 20th Century the economics of this country were based on the premise that you take the average citizen and allow him enough affluence to own his own home, send his kids to college, drive a late model care, go on vacation and have a basic retirement and average joe is happy. He doesn't care about the rich or corruption or big government.
So the rich have gotten too greedy and this formula is broken. So average joe ain't happy cause he can't attain these things. So now he's looking at things to blame. Maybe big government, maybe runaway spending, maybe Govt debt, maybe illegal aliens, maybe the other political party, maybe this and maybe that.
You all want change? You already got it in spades and you're going to get more and you won't like any of it and sending people to Washington unwilling to compromise trying to "take back the Govt" and make other folks live according to someone else's religion or morals won't help things.
You want small govt like we had in say 1860 with it you get the life folks back then lived and the conditions that existed.
All these things people demand now, if it came to pass people would really be mad.
People don't know what they want. Their just a bunch of sheep being led around by their nose.
So you're a Trumpanzee eh?
Yes and it was called the "trickle down theory." Anyone old enough to remember that great joke played on the middle class Americans?
Make the rich so rich that their money overflowed down to us like scraps off a table. Only problem with it, is that no one told the rich to let some of it go. They kept every friggin dime...
That had nothing to do with the trickle down theory. It was just the way things were. it was the result of the Union Movement and the idea of the social contract.
The trickle down theory widely revered by many has been tried time and time again and it has never worked though some keep believing in it.
Really? Did some poor fellow create, market and sell the computer you're posting on? How about the cars, microwaves, air conditioners, and DVD players owned by a large percentage of those at or below the poverty line? All that stuff came from who? Some wealthy innovator? Or some poor fellow living out of his car? Wait, that was kind of ironic...
Actually if I recall correctly didn't HP start in some garage? Oh no that was Bill Gates or no it was Steve Jobs. Many of the best inventions came from working class folks working in some basement or garage and in fact if you didn't have to sign over rights to products you invent these big mega corporations would have little. They basically buy it all even swallowing the smaller fish not to mention the patents they steal and litigate the rights away from the true inventors.
At any rate that's not trickle down economics by the book.
But if you're one of the ones who likes the theory then you should do all you can to ensure the rich get to keep everything and pay little in taxes and the middle class take it in the shorts. That way much more will trickle down to the little guy.
Har har.
And of course Bill Gates (who's father was a lawyer) and Steve Jobs (adopted by a middle-class couple) developed their products out of the goodness of their hearts, and not to make the eventual billions that they did. And they had the spare time to fiddle around inventing stuff only because their parents were the ones out on the street corners begging for food...
Yeah that's one of the often used criticisms taken out of context.
Obama, July 13: There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me — because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t — look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.)
If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.
The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.
So we say to ourselves, ever since the founding of this country, you know what, there are some things we do better together. That’s how we funded the GI Bill. That’s how we created the middle class. That’s how we built the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hoover Dam. That’s how we invented the Internet. That’s how we sent a man to the moon. We rise or fall together as one nation and as one people, and that’s the reason I’m running for President — because I still believe in that idea. You’re not on your own, we’re in this together.
So here's a question: Lets say two couples go out for a night on the town, dinner and a movie. One couple is middle class, the other fabulously wealthy. Both couples see the same movie at the same theater, both order the same meal, same menu, at the same restaurant. Should both pay the same price?
Why should it be any different when it comes to government services?
The real fruits of the collective labor (or the trickle down) is not so much in the money that you may or may not have but in the overall efficiency that the economy achieves. Unions do not create this. The benefit that we see comes in the lower prices and ease of bringing goods to the market in abundance at prices that people can afford. In 1900 a person would have to labor for nine hours to buy a pair of pants. In 1999 it was three hours. A three minute long distance call in 1950 would require 104 minutes of labor. In '99, two minutes. Today's poor walk around with more goods and services than the poor of yesteryear could never have imagined. There will always be someone with more than you have. Even in former communist states, there were some with more than others. The idea that rich people are holding all the wealth and not sharing it is a silly assumption.
I think the trump train can't be stopped. As much as I hate to say this next comment, I'm a realist and I believe it to be true. If hillary wins there will be another civil war. Who do you think will win? The gun fearing liberals or the doomsday prepping conservatives?
We do have to do some things together. The gov has to provide military, defend borders enforce contracts and protect people from crimes against them and their property. It is never successful when they interfere in anything else.
