It's not a pay issue, most are take home vehicles , they drive 100 to 150 miles a day. They just need to communicate better when they need to get basic services done.
Now a days the vehicle should call you when it needs service. Don't tell me that in this day and age you don't know where your vehicles are within 20 feet at any time.
I can definitely pull up where they are even now that I am 7 hours difference in time zones away. I guess I should put video cameras in their trucks while they drive and spend time I do not have at the moment. Gas cards are only as good as the data the technicians enter while pumping gas for their mileage. I do have the branch manager check them weekly, but no way to predict when the need to check the brakes, coolant, etc while doing a vehicle inspection in the morning for 18 vehicles.
Maybe you should by a 19th and pull them in on a scheduled twice a month or so inspection. :hmmm:
Possibly, time to have breakfast and go out, enjoy the rest of your evening.
Off to work. To everyone a good evening or morning!
I just happened to stumble upon this little trick and I thought that I'd share. Note that it's a left hand drill bit--at least it looks like it is and also I would add that some Kroil oil added before hand would be worth the effort as I've never used 'The Beeswax Trick'.

Another project i did on my Saturday. I do my woodworking on the driveway, just outside the garage. I use a 4ft x 3ft table top on folding saw-horses and needed a place to put my smaller power tools closer to the garage door so i dont have to carry them as far or in between the cars.
So i made this cabinet with sliding doors and a shelf above it for storage. I keep parts radios and pieces in the cabinet and my buffer, scroll saw and belt sander now sit on top of the cabinet.

Its on shelf brackets plus screwed to the wall over the top of my compressor. Im happy with the way it turned out.
Out with the old leaky crane.

And in with the new.

A higher clearance at the taps will make the shave cave even safer..
Still cleaning up excess silicone.
It doesn't take much skill to tie a bit of paracord to a snap on a cheapie toolbox and then to the handles so you stop losing the snap.
But I figured with my luck the damn knot would loosen and I'd completley lose the snap so I 'glued' the paracord once I had it in place.
I just grabbed my torch and slowly flickered the heat over the end until it was melting into part of the knot.
I don't think that Eisenstein has anything to worry about. :roflmao:rofl2::nj

You don't have to heat it up enough to melt it into another part of the knot.
Just get a little flattened ball on the end and it won't pull through.
Used very often in archery.
What I'm using is an old 'snap' from the swivel that was on a garbage strop. But for visual purposes here's a 'type' of snap:
Attachment 285524
My friend, as I said at the start---It's a Cheap Tool Box. I guess I should have said a 'Portable Tool Box' one that would open up without having the 'lock' being secured by the 'Snap'.
My apologies for any confusion.

Got to do what you got to do. But I know the feeling when the clip gets lost.
I started posting in the 'What are you working on' thread but since my project isn't razor related so I'll continue here.
Here's some links to what I'd posted in the other thread:

Sharptoon later posted some pics of a very nice Aladdin that he found while cleaning out his dad's apartment. Check it out.
So I had picked up another Aladdin but it didn't have the Shade or the ring to hold it and the glass chimney was cracked so I ordered new mantles and a new chimney. I got the High Output/High Elevation chimney as they put out up to 20% more light at sea level and are a must for 4 thousand feet and up. My local Ranch and Home carries kerosene in various sizes. So after burning off the mantles, filling the fonts (the bottom that holds the kerosene) I got the two lamps operational.
I played with them most all afternoon and there is a little trick to getting enough of the wick up that you get maximum brightness but no black spots on the mantles. Research showed that all you need to do to get ride of the spots is to turn the wick down a bit and they will burn off and then you can adjust the wick back up a bit.
Here's Some Pics last night after dark. I had turned off all lights after getting a lamp up and going.

I stumbled upon a great buy on a third that has the same base as my first one so I should be all set for power outages (at least for light and a bit of heat). :tu
Thanks for looking
Hooray, now let's get Tom to post the progress on his green Washington Drape Aladdin. I do believe that with both lamps going you would have enough light to shave with.:tu
When it comes to getting the most out of those lamps, one should never under estimate the power of a mirror.
those have always fascinated me but i've never seen one in person. (lit that is). Always have dependable power where i live so haven't had the need.
In 2010 we had an ice storm with miles of power lines down. I was with out power for 4 days. My Aladdin's saved my butt. My neighbor wasn't so lucky, he was with out for over two weeks. After I got power my Model 23 Aladdin went to his place and burned almost non stop for him. He was warm, his wife had light to cook by and the kids did their home work for school. When he finally got power the first thing his wife did was to order a brand new Aladdin.
Yup, I got the NOID today. My latest Washington Drape Aladdin Lamp arrives with the drape broken :banghead:
I've contacted the seller and am waiting for a reply.
I've never had to deal with a 'claim' at FleaBay, I just hope it's not any kind of hassle.
Attachment 287847
that;s too bad Roy, It's a nice looking lamp too. BTW is there a style of lamp that would be better (and preferably less expensive) for a noob like myself? You got me thinking about dependability of power.
Here ya go tintin. Brand new------> https://www.lehmans.com/product/alad...-iii-oil-lamp/
It has the new Max-Brite burner which is every bit the equal of Roy's vintage Model B.
Like Benz said the new Aladdin's are nice.
I'm liking the Aladdin's for several reasons. The nostalgia of using something that my grandparents could easily have used, the fact that they are quiet, that they will run for around 8-10 hours on a filling without having to be messed with and they look great! :tu
They do have a bit of a learning curve and parts can be a bit pricey and kerosene isn't found everywhere.
The Coleman White Gas Lanterns are a also a good choice. There is also their propane lanterns. Fuel for both are everywhere, even the local convenience stores carry the gallon cans of gas and the propane bottles. You can also get an adapter and stand to hook the propane lamps up to a large tank like from your BBQ.
The disadvantages with the gas ones is that you have to keep pumping them to keep the pressure up so you get the bright light and they make a hissing sound and the tank filling don't last as long.
I have a double mantle white gas that I've used for well over 30 years and it's still going strong. Like the Aladdin's you need to have extra mantles and of course fuel on hand. My grandfather stored his Coleman in the cardboard box it came in and the mantles were under the lanterns so-----there's a total of 8 extra mantles there.

My backup source for cooking without electricity is my 2 burner Coleman propane stove with the adapter to the large tank/however it will run on just the small green bottles.
I hope this has been of some help.
I have 6 of those Colemans, Roy. One burns kerosene so you have to fill a little cup with a little 'pitcher' with a curved spout and put some alchohol in, light it until the generator warms sufficiently to fire the kerosene!
Sorry the thing got broken. I can imagine shipping the things takes lots of prep.
Maybe the seller will let you keep it. I see lots of the reservoirs for sale that that burner will fit.
I am pissed at the PO myself. 3 mantles for mine have been 'out for delivery' for 3 days!
Here's mine!
Attachment 287860
I hope you ordered a wick or two also-----:w
Does your kerosene powered lantern look different from the gas ones? If so--perhaps a pic or two
Normally I'm very pleased with the service I get from the USPS however I sent a small padded envelope to Germany and it's taken 7 days just to get it on a plane headed out of the USA! :banghead:
Yea I'm hoping that the seller says just to keep what's left and refunds me the purchase price and the shipping 100%
Well! Talk bad about them and they FINALLY deliver! ;)
Attachment 287861
Looking at my wick vs pics of new ones, mine has tons of life left.
Figure to get another for a spare when some more money flows.
Lehmans said they were out of stock on the mantles, but an ebay seller had them for a few cents less and free-ship.
Very nice lamps, and a great restoration challenge.
Have a few that are begging for attention now Roy.
Raising the bar now brudder.
:tu
Think I will clean mine up a bit and go with it. If I was to polish the brass, I would have to maintain it!
Too much to maintain already! :D
My favorite mantle lamp is a Coleman duel fuel that along with white gas will also burn unleaded gasoline. Which from my understanding is a little less filtered so the orifices have to be bigger. They burn a little more fuel per hour but in the long run much cheaper.
One time on the way to fishing I didn't know if I had any gas in the lamp. This was a few years ago when gas was very high. My truck was full but I pulled into a station and filled my lantern. 20 cents USD or so and when I went in to pay the attendant freaked out that I had cheated the pump and it should be $25.
She was very upset but I got change from my quarter!:rofl2:
Here is the kerosene Coleman. Different!
you snake the little spout in and fill the reservoir with alcohol, Stick a match in and light it. That gets the generator hot enough to work with the kerosene.
Dusty. Gonna clean it up and bring it inside.

I dig this one! Stainless base, accessory handle/reflector and sparker.
Attachment 287869
I have several of the double-mantle ones in the attic along with a nice red single mantle I bought new as a kid.
Sadly, I understand they don't allow them in national parks anymore.
Likely because of some idiots.
