I found an old fish tank on the side of the road for trash pickup. The glass wasn't broken, scratched, or chipped but the silicon was peeling away and the plastic base that keeps the bottom end together was MIA. Well, I couldn't resist the urge to pick it up and do a little refurbishing. I relined the seams with non-toxic silicon, and then I had to figure out what to do about the base. My solution:

This is a pretty tight fit around the base of the tank, and now that it's stained it gives it a fairly nice look if I do say so myself. My only concern is the wood possibly swelling and putting pressure on the glass. Well, hopefully the cross rails I put in the inside will prevent any of that action. And while I was staining that I decided my Arkansas stone boxes could use a little touch up:

They looked unfinished - fooled me. Apparently they did rub tung oil on them or something. The middle pic is where the stain didn't quite seep in right because of it. The last one should be after a good sanding, when the stain seeped in properly.
Turned out a pouch for a Leatherman Wingman, for the kid.
Thanks for looking,,,,:D

Nice wingman pouch.
My only complaint with the latest iterations of the Leatherman line is the pouch.
No longer available with the snaps and leather clad like the originals.
My newer surge Ti came with a Velcro 'snap', which is full of fuzz now and doesn't close properly.
Your lad has a good dad, and a reason to always wear a belt now!
Nice work John!

that's a very nice pouch! Your stitching is always so neat.

Hey Mike, if you want the best leather for the wingman, contact Leatherman.com and they should have what you want, I have stopped into their store and gotten the latest pouches, and they have made the Best yet IMO, last one was $8.00...
I was looking for a something smaller than my full size axe for light camping/backpacking and decided to try out the cold steel pipe hawk. I stripped the paint and blued the metal. I also cut the pipe end off to save weight and be able to keep a hammer end and cut the handle shorter. Wrapped the handle in some thin sheepskin so I can still slide the head off easily. The handle needed quite a bit of filing to fit better and its still not perfect, but better than it was. I didn't get a sheath with mine so I had to make one. Wish I had dye for the leather, but since I was impatient to make it I just oiled the leather to darken it some. Turned out better than i thought. Tried it out and the dirt and other stuff darkened it more. Worked better than was expecting for how cheap it was. It chopped through brush and about 3" seasoned maple and apple fire wood quite easily. Cutting through 5" seasoned oak though was a pain. Weighing less than 1 1/2 lb the weight didn't help any.
