That is a good price for a pie safe however we have to remember it was a fund raiser and people with extra cash are usually happy to leave it at a fund raiser, which is after all the purpose in attending.

True - and the Auction Committee had that in mind when they set bid amounts.

One of those sat on my Great-Aunt's back porch. Really old primitive, I used to marvel at it. I wondered why it was referred to as a safe?
Anyone could open it.

In the days before refrigeration, keeping stuff out in the climate was best, I guess.
The holes ensured air circulation and kept the flies out. The artwork in the tin was bonus, as were most things back then.

Wish I had it now! ;)
