Thread: Passing It Foreward And Or Paying It Back

Hello to All,

There is a general theme here at SRP that I really like and that is Members helping Members. And often times that help is by giving or loaning equipment.

Five years ago I was blessed by being introduced to Micheal Horn. We met at a Spokane Washington Meet; 'Mike' was a very quite guy but very likeable. When we met he was recovering from a kidney transplant with the kidney donated by his sister Jen.

Mike recently passed away. Apparently not long after he and Jen had celebrated the Five Year Anniversary of the transplant.

To make a long story short Jen has donated all of Mike's equipment to me to disperse to those that I feel would appreciate it and remember that Mike had treasured it.

Trust me, I will be extremely 'Picky' as to who gets what as I've been burned in the past by giving; only to find that the recipient either just dropped out of sight or had more than enough money to purchase their own equipment.

With that said, they are in the vast minority as most have been very appreciative and in fact have sent me razors, hones, strops or such to pass along.

Non of Mikes razors, strops soap dishes etc are anything 'Fancy' or 'Custom' but they are all good solid 'tools'.

The Reason That I'm Posting This Thread Is This:

Please share your experiences with having had something passed forward or of you paying it back.

You my friend have given so much forward and I thank you for those gestures! :

I have mixed results from pass it forward. When the venue is well tended, things go well. If not, schmucks tend to congregate.
That said, I have never lost by giving! Somehow the universe keeps a balance. All good deeds go unpunished.
That seems to be the same for many good folk of my acquaintance.

Giving is the greatest gift.

I've given my time by restoring razors, free honings, and given away a few razors. My theme is that I normally give to someone who seems genuine. I'm partial to veterans, shooters, and those who ride...can't help it.

I too like the feeling of giving without expecting anything in return.

Not so long ago I booked and paid for a holiday to Greece for me and my girlfriend.
It then became clear that she could not make the holiday and I could not get a refund on the flights or accommodation.

I offered the holiday to my friend,a plumber, who was out of work at that time.
I told him it was free and he would owe me nothing.
He offered to reimburse me in the future but I declined.

Almost every one I know had an issue with him receiving a free holiday.

A few months after the holiday I bought a new kitchen.
My friend spent 2 weeks installing this kitchen for me, which included new electrics ,floor cementing and much more. All whilst I was at work.
He did this as repayment for the holiday and all those who disagreed with him receiving a free holiday soon shut up.

Give and you shall receive..
