Thanked: 3228Why are we on the hook?
Why are Canadian tax payers on the hook for some of the cost of protecting a couple of business men on private business in Vancouver? That cost should be borne by the business men themselves.

If your Prime Minister came to the USA I'm sure our people would be equally committed to protecting him. IMHO
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

The only reason I can give you is Canadian Pride,, If something were to happen it would look bad for Canada, other then that, I agree it is their responsibility..

Thanked: 3228I do not believe we normally extend added security for visiting foreign business men on company business. They will already have a US Secret Service detail with them anyway. It always looks bad if something happens to any foreign national in your country regardless of who they are.

This is all part of the "Trump Problem" with his business interests and entanglements and his political situation.

Thanked: 3228Yup and if I wasn't paying because of that tangled web of smoke and mirrors situation I would care less.
There also seems to be the small matter of a spike refugees illegally crossing into Canada to claim asylum that has happened since the Trump EO on immigration that is also causing some additional Canadian taxpayer money to be spent. It does not matter that the US is considered a "Safe Haven" for refugees if the refugees themselves no longer consider it to be.

Thanked: 3228For sure and if your President came up here we would assist in providing additional security to aid the US Secret Service detail that would be present.
Those two are not part of the US government, are not up here on US government business but private business for their own personal financial gain and ultimately that of their father's. Is it not normal for companies to supply security for their executives on trips for the company's benefit if it is deemed necessary?
I really hate to be part of paying for private individuals to enrich themselves promoting their own company is all.
