Elkins WV. Im home again.!! To my bloodline
When I worked as a gunsmith, but It escapes me now.... there was a rifle scope manufacturer (80s) that used a 4 bore for testing their scopes/mounts. Redfield comes to mind, but it was likely someone else.
[edit]: I'm pretty sure it was Burris, now that I think of it.
If I am not mistaken, the picture I posted is of a .600 Nitro Express cartridge and there is still the .700 Nitro Express to go. It kinds smarts when you yank the trigger on one of those. :rofl2:
I remember we took photos when we test fired a 460 Weatherby Magnum, the fellow we got to do the testing stood a solid 6' tall and weighed the north side of 200lbs. We captured him during full recoil and his hair all pointed straight forward. After the shot, he grinned and asked for another shell, but at the cost, even back then, we declined.
Personally, I am a big believer in sectional density.... so make mine a VW. It may not have the highest velocity, but it sure has knockdown power!
My bad, you are absolutely correct that you posted a photo of a 600 Nitro Express. That same photo turned up when I did a search for 4 bore cartridges and I did not check the source image which was tagged 600 Nitro Express. Knew it had to a British stopping round by the look of it.

The 4 Bore Stopping Guns served a purpose. This is just madness!
