The Cash Strapped Shaver

As long as I stay off of eBay I'm good. I still buy things here and there, but not the "oh I have to have that now". I have some quality shave gear, and top tier soaps. As well as some real great razors. But I also consider those as things I can pass down to my sons. If they chose this route.
But I also shaved with the lower cost products for years. And got very good shaves. Now that I'm older and am enjoying the "extras" in life. My shaves have reached a new level. My bank account has too, but it's a lower level :D

Yes, You have to enter that long number in perfect order along with filling out anything with a red asterisk. If you refuse to enter your Mother's maiden name that might cause the transaction to fail.

I sit there and think, will this really shave better than the other razors I have? Will this hone really improve the edge that much from what I already have? Doesn't my strop already do the job just fine? But those questions usually don't work for me. I just stop myself from looking at places that sell nice things :( although I am thinking about trying some different soaps, have actually been good with soaps and I am close to finishing the two I have (Dr Harris shaving soap and proraso shaving cream). The more I think about an item the more I want it, so a good rule to follow is if you still want the item (or similar) after 3 months then look into getting one.

Thinking of soaps mainly. Unless I HATE them I don't worry about it until it is about a month from running out....

Then I think about improving.

But that is about once a year. :rofl2:

I got some bigalow for a gift and a kilo of cella not long ago...

I gave about half of the Cella away but that leaves me at least a couple of years before I am looking to improve.

Neither are bad enough to toss but I can see the possibility of improvement. :hmmm::rofl2:

Well, I enjoy collecting razors, hones, strops, soaps and creams as part of this hobby, but it is not my only hobby.

My rule is never to feed more than one obsession at a time. Thus, if I purchase a razor, I wait until it is paid for before I start looking at more hones, strops, computer equipment, music/audio gear, home automation, etc.

Right now my eye is on a cordovan shell strop, but I just purchased my wife a robot vacuum for her birthday (it also fed my tech-nerd obsession), so no strop for me until the robot is paid for.

speaking of audio gear I was thinking about getting the Sony 1000x headphones. Currently I have V-Moda M-100 though so I feel like I would just be getting it for better noise cancellation and going wireless when I want.

I don't spend much money on other things. I only buy vintage razors and hones. They keep their value and can be resold at little or no loss. The B/S/T section of SRP has a lot to offer at very reasonable prices.

It has become much easier for me to resist buying more razors in the past year or so. I realized that, like women, they are all beautiful in some way and that I just cant have them all. :)
