    Default The Cash Strapped Shaver

I'm proposing a new category for those of us that while lusting for and giving into our various ADs and top tier products are still faced with not having the wherewithal to acquire such items. This would be in any area, such as soaps, aftershave/balms, brushes and the like. Knowing where your spending power stops what have you found that has satisfied your need for as near the top as you can afford. It is easy to overspend and regret, in just about all of the shaving categories. What have you done to alleviate and soothe the "gotta-have-it" beast that lives in all of us?

I don't know if it soothes the desire but I don't have a Pay Pal account and that stops me at the start for many things.

Luckily my worst _AD is hones and I don't find many of those. Staying off of Ebay as a buyer helps

I believe that I have reached the point where, for the most part, I have decided that I have "enough." As long as I do not learn about any other category of hone, I think I have almost just about pretty close to probably enough.
And I too have avoided looking at ebay for the last few years.

While I have a major jones to own a fili I do not pursue the lust. I never go to Ebay or BST.

If I could stop Bruno's manufacturing I would be in reasonable shape, financially that is.

I was all dialled in with relatively inexpensive soaps for the longest time. Don't get me wrong, I still have and love those soaps but I have caved recently and bought some high end soaps. Getting back to my point. I shaved for a very long time with a soap selection of Arko, Volobra, Speick, Tabac, LaToja as the lions share. Fanstastic soaps, and they will not break the bank. For 20 years I mostly had a beard but trimmed and shaved occasionally with an Omega boar brush. It was fine. I had comfortable and satisfying shaves. All of this many kinds of expensive soaps came later in life with more disposable income, read in empty nest. When people ask about wet shaving I always say drugs tore boar brushes and nice inexpensive soaps can change how you feel about shaving. At current that may not be what is going on in my life, but it sure started that

    Aloha!

When it comes to shaving products, I wish I could say "I have enough", but alas, I never seem to. There is always another soap, another fragrance, another razor, another brush, and on and on and on it goes. I have scaled back on high end purchases. My shave den is pretty complete as is, so most of my purchases these days are $50 and under. I'm happy with my collection of Straight Razors, Shavettes, and DEs.... for the most part. I do have my eye on a Jagger, but that's about it. I have enough first tier soaps to last me years, and even my passion for Proraso products is sated at present with a recent gift box full of Proraso items sent to me by a friend. Proraso may not be exceedingly expensive, but it's my favorite general line, and I have probably spent more on Proraso over the last 20 years (combined) than I have on anything else.

I suppose it is subjective on what is expensive and what is top tier. I happen to think that Stirling Soap is quite excellent, and I don't think the price is expensive. Others may disagree.

You can have fun with very little money with accessories on Amazon, and by watching Youtube and getting ideas on low cost soaps and creams. I just was watching a review on Nivea Sensitive Skin Cream on Youtube and the reviewer was raving about the performance. For something like $2.99 a tube.

I just look at my Credit Card bill when I want to buy something else. That normally keeps me from ordering. Sometimes it works. Ha.

being a avid DIYer i have been able to save a lot of money by making things myself. Anything from strops to brushes to brush stands and display shelves. I just bought my first ready made brush from Stirling soap co. and couldn't be happier with it have always been a fan of Prorasso as well a soaps like Palmolive. Just reloaded my soap collection with a variety of soap samples from the Maggards meet up.(plus the soap i won for a door prize). It is possible to get by without breaking the bank. Just have to be willing to look for the good deals.
